Textured Ceiling Repair

Sometimes even the most obvious of things are missed by us. Ceilings in our homes are one such element. I mean the ceiling is there in front (well not literally!) for us to see if there is something wrong with it. Still it happens that we tend to ignore it. If we are a bit alert and keep a watch on small cracks and the like, a major damage to the ceiling can be prevented. Moreover, if the damaged is checked out and repaired at a primary level, it will save money as well.

Repairing a Textured Ceiling

Okay, we take a comprehensive look at how to fix textured ceiling. So first things first, safety glasses, drop cloth, putty knife, drywall sandpaper, drywall sander, drywall compound, stain sealer, spray texture repair kit, texturing brushes and paint. Let's start now!

To start off, scrape away the concerned ceiling texture which is damaged. Use a putty knife to scrape away the damaged portion. Then grab the sander along with sandpaper and sand around the damaged area on the edges.

Now with the help of putty knife, apply a little bit of drywall compound on the area damaged. Let it dry after applying a smooth coat on the textured ceiling portion concerned.

Once you are done with the earlier step, again use the sander for making the surface smooth. In case there was a stain as a result of water leakage and damage, put a stain sealer over the area and let it dry.

The earlier step will help avoid leaking and bleed through problems later on. Now you will need a spray texture repair kit for re-texturing the area. The final thing to do is to paint the damaged area in correspondence with the other area of the ceiling. That's it! That is all you need to do now! A small tip here. When you are using a spray paint, it is important to make sure that you protect the areas which may be affected by the paint or the spray paint you are going to use in the process of repairing textured ceiling cracks. However, in case you are using a pre mixed spray, it would not take a lot of your energy and efforts. In case you use additives, use a roller or paint brush. Add a second coat after it dries if the area looks uneven.

While doing this, remember to keep a newspaper or a used, worn out sheet on the floor. This will prevent the dirt and drywall from spoiling the floor and will confine the mess to that cloth or newspaper only. Do not forget to wear safety gear, especially glasses, while doing this! I sign off here!
