Texas Wildflowers
Texas is known for the wild flowers which come in an array of diverse colors and these colors are maintained throughout the year because there are numerous species and one or the other kind keeps blooming round the year. These flowers are not region specific and bloom all across the country. There are more than five thousand species of flowering plant and these plats are adapted to all kinds of weather conditions. There are yellow flowers, which come out in the month of April, May and June in the Hill country area and Highland Lake Region of Central Texas. Then there are Blue bonnets and Texas Paintbrush, which are also one of the Texas wildflowers and grow abundantly in the region near Lake Buchanan or Marble Falls. Here I would discuss about the various wild flowers and the places that they grow in and the conditions, which are suitable for them.

Wild Flowers in Texas

Albino Paintbrush is a part of the Texas Paintbrush which are available in various shades and colors. It is a very rare flower, which cannot be easily spotted and is white in color though purple is its general color.

Bull Nettle is another flower which is part of the Spurge family and the tree is covered wholly with stiff hair like follicles which have an irritant in them which when comes in touch with the skin actually leads to rashes and redness. These flowers are such that they grow in groups and spread all across the land that they grow in. They cover the whole area under a white cover when they blossom together.

Prairie Larkspur is a flowering plant that belongs to the Crowfoot family and is approximately an inch wide. These flowers are white or light blue in color. The stem of the flower does not branch out and can grow up to sixty inches though not quite often. There is a peculiar characteristic of this flower, which is that; the sepals or the upper petals of this flower have a projecting spur. The number of petals in the flower is four and they from a cluster shaped thing at the center of the flower. These flowers grow at the apex of the stem and are considered to be poisonous and cause the death of animals, which eat them. These flowers bloom from April to July.

Horse Crippler is also known as the Devil’s Head and is a kind of Cactus which lives up to its name of being a "Horse crippler". Many horses have been crippled when they stamped on the cactus blossom as it grows hardly an inch or two above the ground. The blossom blooms in a beautiful pink and has a feathery appearance, which makes it look really enchanting. The anthers of this flower are pink to red and the pistils are yellow. This flower blooms from the month of April to May.

Bluebonnets are the most commonly found flowers and are official state flower of Texas since they grow in huge numbers in the fields of Texas from March to April. The blooming of Bluebonnets depends on the winter rains and warm spring weather. These flowers grow in clusters and the blue of these flowers is really charismatic. This flower is worthy of the status of being the state flower.

So these are some of the flowers, which adorn the fields of Texas, and there are many more like the Agaves, Chocolate flower, American Lotus, Beach morning Glory and Daisy. Then to be color specific there are flowers like the Mexican Gold Poppy, Desert Marigold and Coreopsis which are available in yellow colors. There are red blossoms like the Mountain Pink, Redbud Tree, Pitaya and the Lantana. The list has more than five thousand flowers, out of which these are ones that caught my attention.
