Pastule is a dome-shaped, fragile lesion that contains pus which usually consists a mixture of white blood cells, dead skin cells, and bacteria.
Tetracycline for Acne: How to use?
Tetracycline is a prescription drug and hence, it should be taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Taking the drug in more or less quantity than the prescribed quantity could prove harmful. Here are some important points that you need to bear in mind while taking tetracycline for acne dosage.
Checking the expiry date of this drug is very important. Outdated tetracycline is known to be highly toxic to the kidneys. Since tetracycline should be taken only in the prescribed quantity, you must use a measuring spoon to consume the right quantity of tetracycline oral.
You must take tetracycline 1 hour before or 2 hours after the meals. Consume it with a full glass of water. Food inhibits the absorption of tetracycline so it is good to be taken on an empty stomach. It should not be consumed with dairy products as these can affect its absorption by the body. Also, you should not consume any antacids containing aluminum, calcium, or magnesium while you are taking tetracycline for acne as these will affect the absorption of this drug.
If you are using an oral suspension of tetracycline, make sure you shake well before use. Store the tetracycline capsules at normal room temperature. Keep the liquid form of this drug in the refrigerator, do not keep in the freezer compartment. Keep it out of reach of children. Topical tetracycline should be stored in a cool, dry place, away from direct light and heat. Check the expiry date before using it.
Remember that if you are pregnant, breast feeding or planning to conceive, then you should not take tetracycline. Moreover, it should not be used by children under twelve.
Side Effects of Tetracycline for Acne
Tetracycline can have several side effects. These can be moderate or serious ones. While you use tetracycline for acne, it can cause side effects like dizziness, mild nausea, stomach upset, vomiting and diarrhea. It can also cause fever, breathing difficulty, swelling in genital area or swelling of the face. Topical tetracycline can occasionally cause skin irritation, which should soon disappear. But if it doesn't or the side effects becomes severe, stop using this topical antibiotic and consult your doctor. In rare cases, the side effects of using tetracycline for acne can be a bit more serious. You must immediately consult the doctor if you experience any of the following side effects of tetracycline for acne.
