Teeth Whitening Tips
Healthy teeth is an important aspect of the overall health and fitness of an individual. Proper care of the dental health is as important as maintaining a good health. All the four components of teeth are responsible for keeping the teeth clean, white and healthy. The outermost, white portion is the enamel, underneath the enamel, lies the dentin, pupil and cementum. As enamel is exposed, it is very fragile and can be worn out by acidic foods and citrus juices. If there is any damage in the tooth enamel, the particular tooth is susceptible to cavities, gum diseases and other dental problems. The nerves and blood vessels of the tooth are present in the dentin and pupil part. The actual root of the tooth is the cementum, which is the innermost portion.

While speaking about teeth whitening, every individual prefers to have white and clean teeth. Many factors like foods, drinks, smoking and other lifestyle habits affect the whiteness of teeth. Some people have stained teeth, which develop over a period of years. In order to restore white color of the teeth, it is necessary to practice some procedures and make certain changes in the lifestyle along with brushing twice a day.

Teeth Whitening Tips

Teeth whitening can be done by visiting a dentist. Usually, dentists use bleaching agent with an activated light for whitening teeth. This method conducted by a dentist may lighten the teeth stain to about 3 - 8 shades. A session for teeth whitening may charge about $500. The dentist may recommend dental care tips in order to retain the white color. Besides this, there are several home remedies to whiten the teeth, which are discussed as follows.

One of the inexpensive ways to whiten teeth is by using a whitening toothpaste. It can lighten the teeth color to about 1 - 2 shade. All types of toothpaste contain mild abrasives that help in removing stain. In case of whitening toothpaste, additional chemical substances are present for effective removal of surface stains in the teeth.

Over-the-counter strips and gels are available for whitening teeth. The former is a peroxide-based gel that can be applied on the stained teeth. For better results, one can apply twice daily for two weeks or as per the recommendation of the dentist. Teeth whitening strips, on the other hand, are thin strips coated with a bleaching agent. It is an instant way to whiten teeth. Similar to whitening gel, strips should be used twice daily for consecutive two weeks.

Another tip for teeth whitening is to make a paste of table salt, baking soda and hydrogen peroxide and use it as toothpaste while brushing. It is to be noted that dilute hydrogen peroxide should be used for preparation of the paste. The smoke resulting from cigarette contributes a lot in causing discoloration of the teeth. Hence, those who indulge in smoking can regain the original color of their teeth (to some extent) after quitting the habit of smoking.

Based on teeth discoloration, these tips may lighten the teeth stains by 1 - 3 shades. Whatever be the procedure, it is always recommended to follow a good oral hygiene in order to retain white teeth as it boosts the appearance and confidence!
