Teeth whitening, also known as teeth bleaching at the dentist is surely effective. However, it is not a permanent treatment measure. As visiting the dentist regularly for teeth whitening is an expensive endeavor, it would be beneficial to gain knowledge about some teeth whitening home remedies, which are effective as well as less expensive than the treatment given by the dentist. However, before looking at the home remedies for teeth whitening, first it is necessary to understand the causes of stained teeth.
Causes of Stained teeth
There are various factors that can lead to staining of the teeth. The presence of yellow, brown, black and gray stains on the teeth are caused due to various factors as mentioned below.
- Consumption of beverages, alcohol, tea, coffee, soda, etc., can lead to the occurrence of stains on the teeth. They can also be seen in people who are addicted to tobacco.
- Teeth discoloration can be caused due to certain infections, intake of medicines, especially antibiotics, environmental conditions and also due to some hereditary reasons.
- One of the main reason for tooth discoloration is improper technique of brushing the teeth. Many people do not know the correct way of brushing the teeth, and this can lead to discoloration. Besides this, with old age, stains occur on the teeth quite naturally.
Most people opt for chemical teeth whitening products or go to the dentist for cleaning their teeth. However, these treatment measures are not effective for a long period of time. Moreover, chemical products can damage the teeth in the long run. Due to this, it would be good to choose some home teeth whitening tips. Here are some treatment measures for tooth bleaching that can be made at home.
Baking Soda: Baking soda is an effective and safe method of teeth whitening. Take ½ tablespoon of baking soda and mix it with ½ teaspoon of vinegar and a tinge of table salt. Make a mixture and apply it on the teeth, and you will surely see a difference in the appearance of the teeth. You can also use baking soda directly by applying some on a wet toothbrush or by adding it to the toothpaste.
Hydrogen Peroxide: Hydrogen peroxide is another home remedy for teeth whitening. It can either be used alone or by mixing it with baking soda. Add 2 - 3 drops of hydrogen peroxide in ½ tablespoon of baking soda and use it regularly. Though you may experience a slight burning sensation on the gums, you will surely be left with beautiful white teeth.
Basal Leaves: Basal leaves are one of the effective natural teeth whitening methods. Mix dry orange rinds with dry basal leaves and rub it on the teeth to completely get rid of unwanted stains.
Strawberries: Strawberries possess natural teeth whitening agents. Besides, the seeds of strawberries are useful to clean the teeth. You can make a strawberry paste by grinding it or just rub it directly on the teeth. However, it is necessary to brush with normal toothpaste after using strawberries because it contains certain acids and sugar.
Wood Ash: Using hard wood ash for tooth bleaching is also a good home remedy. But wood ash should not be applied regularly as it may lead to the decrease in tooth enamel. So it would be better to use it between long gaps of time.
Other Natural Remedies
Along with these, there are some other natural teeth whitening remedies that could be followed. One of them is the consumption of a nutritious diet. One's diet should include foods like apples, strawberries, celery, broccoli, etc. It is not only important to brush twice a day, but it is also necessary to learn the proper technique of brushing teeth. Quitting cigarette smoking is also a good way of lessening the stains on the teeth.
These teeth whitening home remedies do not involve major risks. However if you are allergic to certain things used for teeth bleaching, it is best to avoid them. Moreover, it is also necessary to remember that these should not be over-used because it can lead to the damage of the tooth enamel and make them weaker. Use the natural remedies of teeth whitening with caution and enjoy the compliments that you receive for your sparkling white pearls.
