Teenage Princess - Chapter 8

Danger or Safety? More friends are made and things take a scary turn.
I awoke in a dark room. I could hear the faint sound of country music. It was rather soothing. I realized I was lying in a soft bed and had different clothes on. Where was I? One minute I had been running from guards, The next I was here. Come to think of it, I wonder what happened to that guard who had helped me. I got up and quickly sat back down. My body felt weak and completely numb. I began to wonder how long I had been out for, or how long I had been here. But there wasn't time for that.

Once I was dressed in my own clothes, I left the room. "Well, well if it isn't sleeping beauty", said a familiar voice. "It's you", I said looking at the guard. He was here and now dressed casually. He was wearing jeans and a navy blue long sleeved shirt. The guard had light blonde hair with daring black eyes. They looked almost wolf like and rather interesting. "Why so surprised princess? Really think I would let you die?" He asked. "I don't even know you so, I don't know what I should have thought." I replied. "I called your friends. They should be here soon to come get you. For now make yourself at home. My wife is cooking dinner, It probably won't compare to your palace food, But it's good." He said. "Thank you, Umm.. I feel like I'm being rude. May I ask your name?" I asked. "My name is Bertolf, Princess" He said. " Bright wolf, right?" I asked.

He nodded. "It suits you" I said before thinking what I was saying. "Thank you" He said with a smile. A small woman with short brown hair and bright blue eyes walked into the room holding a pot. She smiled at me softly. "It seems you're up deary. I'm glad you're alright. You had us rather frightened." She said. "Oh, I'm sorry" I said. "Princess, This is my wife, Carita" He said in a friendly tone. "Nice to meet you" I said with a smile.

From my experiences lately, I knew I had to be weary for who I trusted. But my stomach rumbled as I smelt the food she had made. "I see you're hungry, I made some curry. Please sit down and enjoy" Said the lady. I sat down in a chair. As I sat down, In came two children. One looked to be 15 and the other to be 6. "Mommy, Who's that?" Asked the younger girl. "Forgive my rudeness, This little one is our daughter Beatrice and this one over here" She said walking over to the older one "Is our second oldest daughter Naomi" Said Carita.

As we sat and ate supper, We talked and laughed. I couldn't believe I was actually having fun with people I didn't know. I hadn't realized it, but maybe it was just the family feeling. The feeling of being so welcomed by strangers. I was truly missing my family. Not my real one, But the one's who had become family. I miss Dominic and Jeremy, I missed Cris and Zhen. But oddly most of all, I missed Adam, I missed him being in charge of me and protecting me. I knew it was odd but it was true. He had helped me through so much. Yet all I had done was cause them trouble. Maybe it was best they weren't with me no more. This way they wouldn't have to run around to make sure of my safety.

After we ate supper, We all retired to the living room to sit and watch T.V. Naomi looked at me then at her mom. "Please tell me this street girl isn't staying here, She'll ruin my reputation mother" Said Naomi. "Naomi, Don't talk like that about our guest" said Carita. "It's fine Carita, I can understand that it must feel like I'm invading your home" I said. "Yes you are, So why don't you just go back to whatever gang you came from. Or possibly the street corner you came from" She said. I frowned and looked down. As I looked back up I realized Bertolf was looking at me. "Naomi, I don't believe I gave you a proper introduction to our guest here. This is Princess Celina Gloom. She has traveled a long way and was in need of somewhere to reside for a short while" He said. Naomi looked at me a scoffed. "She's a princess... No way. You would have never guessed since she looks like a street whore" Said Naomi.

A knock sounded on the front door. Bertolf got up and walked to the door. As he opened the door, Zhen walked in as though he owned the place. He walked towards me and quickly bowed his head then stood straight. "I'm afraid Christy has a lead on us and we must leave right now. She has sent her soldiers to this very location" Zhen said looking at me. "Then we can't just leave with soldiers coming, We'll put this family in danger" I said to Zhen. Naomi got up and glared. "You brought your stupid street girl problems here.

Ugh you ruined my life" She said and stalked off to her room. Jeremy and Dominic came in the door with Cris and Adam closely in tow. "Stop being selfish and let's go. They're only in danger if you stay here" said Adam. I sighed and stood up. Carita went to the kitchen and came back with a back pack. "It seems you will be on the run again, So I would like to offer you some food" She said. I smiled softly. "Thank you for your kindness, I really appreciate all that you've done for me" I said. A boy and girl came from the back hallway.

They looked alike and both seemed to be around Zhen's age. "We would like to accompany, We have not yet met, But my life is in your service till death. I swear my oath to you" Said the girl. I looked at her with confusion. "These two are my eldest. They come and go as they need. They work in the farm fields so far from here. My daughter Aislin and my son Sean have been trained in combat and far worse. I can assure they will be good allies to have along your journey" Said Bertolf. "Although we like your kind offer, I'm afraid we cannot accept. Our journey ahead is long and dangerous.

Have you even yet learned what lies beyond these lands? This world here may seem normal, But it is far from that, Zhen said. "I believe we have pledged our oath, We have been trained to deal in any situation and let emotion be put aside when making strong decisions" Sean said. "We don't have time to talk about it. If your coming then come, Staying than stay. Celina let's go" Adam said. I looked at him and put the back pack over my shoulder with a nod. I mouthed a thank you to Carita and followed Adam out. Outside they had five horses. "Dominic can ride with me. Celina looks like your riding with Zhen" Jeremy said. I nodded. Once Aislin and Sean had mounted, We were off.

We had been traveling for a few short hours, But already the sun began to set. The weather grew cold and I wasn't sure where we were. This area was unfamiliar, As was all the places I had been lately. I felt lost and homeless. I felt hopeless that we would make it anywhere safe. "I think we should stop and set up camp for the night. We can take turns keeping watch" Jeremy said. Adam shook his head. "If we go a little further, There should be an abandoned cabin. We passed it on our way here. I'm almost certain it will be much better than staying out here for tonight" He said. Zhen looked over his shoulder at me slightly. "Don't dose off on me, Just a little longer alright?" He said in a soothing voice. So we continued towards the cabin, Or so we hoped.

Adam had quickly found where he had seen the cabin and made sure the area was safe. Aislin and I got stuck waiting outside while the men brought in our luggage. "Everything seems clear and everything's set up. Celina, You and Aislin get some sleep, The rest of us will stand guard" Dominic said. "Fine, I guess" I said and walked inside. It was a bit run down. The bed springs broken and the floor covered in dirty. Cobwebs covered the corners and counters. Suddenly, Aislin and I heard the sound of something explode.

We ran outside to see what it was. As we looked over the horizon in the dark night sky, We saw a flame from a far. "Oh my god" Aislin gasped covering here mouth. Sean's eyes were dark and his features were full of anger, Though deep in his eyes, I saw sorrow. A pain that was now embedded deep in his soul. "My home.." Aislin's voice was nothing more than a whisper. When I looked again over the horizon, I realized exactly what had them in shock.
Should I continue, Or come up with something else?
