A New Mexico teenager who killed his mother, father and younger siblings told police in an interview that his plan was to continue on his spree and to attack a nearby Walmart store. His goal, according to the interview, was to cause "mass destruction." Nehemiah Griego, the 15-year-old who perpetrated the grisly attack on his family, was also planning to kill his girlfriend’s family. Police are considering taking Griego’s 12-year-old girlfriend into custody and charging her as well.
"Nehemiah said after killing five of his family members he reloaded the weapons so that he could drive to a populated area to murder more people," a police report from the incident noted. "Nehemiah stated he wanted to shoot people at random and eventually be killed while exchanging gunfire with law enforcement," the report said.
The crime began around 1 A.M. on Sunday, when Griego sneaked into the bedroom of his parents while his mother slept. He then took a .22-caliber rifle from his parents’ closet and used it to kill her. Griego’s 9-year-old brother became so upset when he realized what had happened that Griego apparently felt the need to shoot him as well, then followed suit by killing his younger sisters, who were 5 and 2 years old.
"At this time, Nehemiah had been contemplating this for some time. The information that Nehemiah had contemplated going to the local Walmart and participating in a shooting in there is accurate," noted the Sheriff investigating the case. "There is no information at all that he went to church to cause anyone bodily harm there. The suspect also contemplated killing his girlfriend's parents."
