If you habituate yourself to a certain way of life, you body will get habituated. It is tough to break it later.   • Mental Preparation: Like everything else, it is a very good technique to mentally prepare yourself for sleeping, as well. Keep telling yourself one hour before you go to bed, that you will sleep when you get to bed and that you NEED to sleep when you get to bed. It works!
  • Hard Work: Hard work is often the secret shortcut to blissful slumber. No kidding! Make sure that you not only tire your body, but also your mind during the day. This way both, your body and mind, will crave for relaxation (which you will get when you don't think of anything in bed). As such, as soon as you hit the sack, you will start drifting off

It is believed by many that the secret to good sleep is, in fact, relaxation. It is tough for people to let go of mundane everyday worries and concentrate on relaxation and rest that they require. This is often the cause of aggravated sleep trouble. Well, lets see how to make it work.
  • No Drinking or Smoking: Alcohol and cigarettes make the mind more active and come in the way of relaxation. Many believe that smoking helps them sleep better. However, this is a misconception. Drinking heavily or smoking before sleeping, makes a person more prone to addiction, which lead to even more sleep troubles.
  • Self Hypnosis: Self hypnosis is a method that makes a person relax this body and mind and focus on the task at hand. In this case, the task being falling asleep. Daily affirmations about sleeping for a couple of weeks, just before you sleep, will definitely help you fall asleep and that too, at the right time. More so, you can also manage to make sure that you wake up at the right time with the help of self hypnosis.
  • Routine: Fixing a sleep routine for yourself and sticking to it everyday is the best way to let your body know who is the boss. Make sure you are in bed at a decent hour every day and wake up at a decent hour everyday. In the beginning, you may feel the sleep deprivation effects, however, sticking to the routine will make your body get habituated to those hours and it will regulate itself accordingly. When practicing these techniques to fall asleep, the only thing that you need to be careful of is that, until and unless your sleep routine does not catch up as a habit, avoid breaks in it. For a regular sleeper, occasional late nights will not cause much problems.
