...I blinked for just a second.. and I was staring at my empty driveway again.. I managed to open the door and went inside.. I ran to my room and shut the door before Donna could start firing me with a series of questions.. My head was reeling..my heart one step ahead.. what was happening to me?.. I couldn't make sense of anything.. and why did my heart start beating like crazy when I thought Eben was behind me?..... why do I always feel so empty inside? That trail of longing that washes through me? I don't want this... I.....
Beep beep. A text msg from Allina broke through my hysteric thoughts. She was coming over. Well, I can finally get it to of my heart.
I ran to the bathroom and looked behind the shower curtain, where I'd hidden the cereus from donna, and forgotten about. I expected it to be dry and wrought by now, but it was as beautiful and fresh as ever... so luminous... it was almost as if it was glowing.. that familiar scent.. it was just heart breaking. I reached out.. as if I were programmed to do so.. with no mind of my own.. my heart throbbing, my finger. an inch away...
"Maryn! What you doin' in the bathroom, staring at that little flower like you've gone bonkers!?"
I stumbled back, my heart skipped a beat "Allina, " it was as if she 'd woken me out of my dream"don't ever creep up on me like that.. okay?".. my voice was shaking.. I could feel something wet on my cheeks.. I was crying!.. holy hell!why was I cryin?.. - Allina was looking at me with shocked wide eyes -..I never cried.. at least never after my vow after my mom's death..
Allina didn't say anything, she just hugged me with all her might..
I tried to speak..but I was so shocked myself, I couldn't even say a word, all that came out was the sound of my heavy breathing..and then I passed out..
"Maryn... hey babe.. come to me..." that same seductive voice called to me.. the depth of it crawling beneath my skin..resounding in my ears...
I jumped up with a start.. before I could even make sense of what I was doing.. I was walking through the door..to that voice.. I needed to get to that voice...
