Chapter One
A New Beginning a New Arrival

Honey...(ashh...hoONNEY)...it's time, it's time to go to the hospital...the baby" (groan, groan) "What?...baby?...what baby? Oh, oh,... are you sure? Damn it, I just got to sleep...and I've got Bison tickets for tomor...I mean today's game. Shit, they cost me twenty bucks. I'll have to call Dav..."

'Yes I'm sure...wake my Mom up and tell her that we are going to the hospital. Oh brother, the pain is getting worst...hope our first little bundle of joy doesn't give Mama a hard time, that bus ride from Buffalo all the way out here too California took a lot out of her. Oh and call Doctor Wilson, his number is... onyournightstand...(auhh)...I'll be so glad when this baby is born...(auggh)...Honey I think you better hurry on down to the corner to make that call...hope no one else is using the pay phone...here's an extra (ahhh)...nickel in case you need it." (guhg) "For God sake woman, you worry about everything. Let me get my jeans on at least and...now...I will go on down to the corner phone booth...and you wake up your mom, you were the one who asked her to come cross-country to help you with this baby, not me. Okay Beebe, I'm going...will you be okay?...I'll be right back."

"Mama, Mama...wake up."
"Oh...are you all right dear? Is it time?" (ohhgushh) "Yes mom, (ahhtua) it hurts... I had forgotten how much it hurts, and I'm scared."

"You'll be all right dear, women have babies everyday. I'll pray for you and you should do the same. And don't you worry about a thing, my grandson and I will get along just fine while you are a way, and when you come home with the new baby he will be a Big Brother."

"Hey Beebe, I'm back. I have the hospital bag, there is just enough gas in the car and Doctor Wilson said he would meet us at Community Memorial, now let's go." "All right honey...but I'll have to walk slow...(shi...) bye Mom, wish me luck.""Good-bye, and you don't have to worry about a thing Dear, it will all turn out just fine. Johnny, you take care of my little girl now, hear."
"Okay Mama, so long"

"Look Johnny, mama gave me two dollars for petrol, but as long as we have enough fuel to make it to the hospital I think I'll save the money for cigarettes." (oucoh)
"Here give me that money I'll stop at the Caddy Shack on the way to the hospital. My pack is almost gone and you'll need a pack while you're in the hospital."

"I'm so glad you're here for this baby's birth. It was so hard having the first one with you being stationed in England. (haw, wah, haw, wah) but...my Brother was a big help to me." "Okay Bee, okay, now get in the car...you alright? There should be no traffic on Highway Seventeen tonight...and by the way, even though your Brother is a hell of a guy, this time I will be the first one to hold my kid. (huchahhohoh)...by all the whining you've been doing...I bet you're gonna have a girl...and then we'll have one boy and one girl... "Perrfondo," by next week this time we will be heading back to NY. It will be nice to see your Brother and the rest of our family...but first you've got to have this baby."

(oh, OHHH), "Could you try to stay clear of the pot holes honey...(oh booy)...the Caddy's parking lot is full of pot holes. I shouldn't have eaten that burrito for lunch today." "Hang in there Babe, we're almost there. Okay light...don't even think about turning red on me, Shit... no way, no one is even coming! Oh the hell with it, I'm going through. Hang on Bee." (uuugh) "Oh...be careful Johnny."

"Shit, would you look at that Beebe, the Caddy Shack is closed. I forgot it was Sunday. Oh well, I'll be all right for a while. How long is it going to take you to have this baby anyway?" Johnny, I'm going to have this baby right here in the car if you..."
"Look Babe there's Eighth Street, only two more blocks up and we'll be at the hospital. I'm wide awake now...and by the way, I thought that burrito we got from "Garry's" was pretty damn good."

Here we are, I'll pull up around the circle and let you out."
"No...no, no I need your help...and I have got to get in there pronto."
"Okay, okay just let me lock the car doors and...hey Babe could you reach the lock on the backdoor on your side? Remember you have to hold the handle. Thanks, now lets go have this baby....Oh shit...wait...your bag for the hospital...it's in the back seat, let me grab it...did I give you the key's?...Oh here they are...God I need a cigarette...well, look at that Beebe...here comes a nurse with a wheelchair."

"Here you go miss, just sit yourself down and let me do all the work. Could you hold the door sir? Thanks, now come this way. How far a part are your contractions sweetie?"
"The contractions feel like they... (hummooh) they are right on top of each other." (ha,ha,ha)
"Sir, this is as far as you are allowed to go. You will have to wait in that room, with the chairs. The doctor will be out to talk to you as soon as he can...and don't you worry, I am going to give your wife a smooth ride in this chariot the rest of the way." "Well...Okay...I guess...bring me back a baby girl Beebe...I love you."

(aahh) "Okay Johnny, I (mehhaahh) love you too." "Thanks nurse (huugt) this baby feels like it is right there ready to pop." (ahhhhh)
"Is this your first baby ma'am?"
"No...no this is my second child."
"Well it has been my experience that the second child comes faster and quicker, but you don't have to worry about a thing...Beebe right? My name is Shirley, Doctor Wilson is already here and waiting for you...here we are."

"Good morning Beebe, here let me help you up on the birthing table...easy now. Okay, the nurses will get you ready, try to relax and take some deep breaths..."
"Okay now...well, all right, good thing I did not delay my travels over here to the hospital, it feels like we can do this in a couple of pushes. I can already feel the babies head...now take a deep breath...and push..."

"(OWEH, OHH), Doctor Wilson I think I am going to need something for the pain...please!"
"...I think Beebe, one more big push will do it...Ready?...Take a deep breath in...and Push." (Ouuuc Ahhh) Yes, that's it...now how about just one more big breath in...let it out slowly. (AHHHHHH!!) There, now there is room for the baby to slip out. Shirley hand me the long forceps. Beebe your doing great, just a little bit further, hang with me young lady...Yes...well...that's better. Okay Beebe I need you to take one last deep breath and push with all your might, here we go. Breath in and,...OOH...there she is, a beautiful baby girl.

Congratulations Beebe...you are now the proud Mother of a little boy and a little girl. I hope you have prepared Big Brother for a little less attention and a little playmate who will be putting his toys in her mouth." "Doctor Wilson, shouldn't the baby be crying?" "Hum...mm, she's breathing all right...I guess I'll have to...(Slap...SLAP...Slap, SLAP)...(WHAAA)...there we go, not to be alarmed Shirley. Do you know what they say about baby's that don't cry when they are born? Well, when a baby is born in silence it means it will spend the rest of its life in deep thought. Good luck mom, you are now a Mother...now wrap this young en up and take her to see her Father.

Two week's later:

"Daughter of mine, I told myself that I would not meddle into your life, but Beebe, I must have a say about your plans to drive from here, California, back to New York. You just got out of the hospital yesterday. A woman needs time to heal, your body has gone through a lot...and what about the baby? How do you plan on feeding this child...for heavens sake Beebe, she isn't even baptized...and you Kids, you and Johnny, the two of you haven't even given her a proper name. Surely you are not going to keep calling her Tears just because she cried big ole tears when the doctor slapped her behind?...Please Beebe, at least have her baptized before we travel cross-country. Heaven forbid, what if something were to happened...and Big Brother will still need his nap. There will be five of us in that old forty-nine Chevy. How will he take his nap?"

"Oh Mama, nothing will happen to us, not with my Johnny driving... and the kid's will sleep when they get tired. Besides, Johnny says we ought to make Buffalo in about five days. Come on Mama, we can tough it out, it's only five little days." "Well Bee, it is not exactly what I bargained for when I said that I would come out here and help out with the baby...and Big Brother, did you see him pull himself up this morning in the playpen? He'll be walking soon, and climbing out of that playpen...mind my word...and by the way Beebe, how are we going to travel with that wooden cage of a playpen anyway?" "Here comes Johnny now mama, why don't you ask him yourself."

"Hump"
"Well my Little Chickadee's, what do you think?...will you be ready to leave in the morning?... ...WHO IS THAT CRYING?...Tears?... Again!...ya know what Bee?, I never thought a little kid could demand such a high maintenance program. I got more sleep in boot-camp!"
"I'll get her honey, she probably wants something to eat, even though it hasn't been four hours yet, oh dear."
"I'll be outside putting the second coat of wax on my Chevy"
Do you think your parents were parental ready to start a family?
I believe my parents had children way to young
I believe society needs to take on some responsibility for birth control
Having children back then was just apart of being married
Children were allowed to and were more disciplined in my generation
The extended family was much more involved in raising the children when I was young
Many "things" were not talked about in the late 50's and 60's
What happen at home while I was growing up had a deep impact on my adult life
Being a woman I was not educated enough to leave the home with two kids
I find I have many more choices now then my parents ever had
I plan on waiting until I am older and more settled down to have children
