Tax Debt Relief Program
Taking into account the current economic scenario of the country the Obama government has introduced several changes to the federal tax tables, to enable citizens take home larger pay packets.

IRS Tax Debt Relief
The Obama government initiated the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act 2009 to aid the tax payer in these times of difficulty. The reforms are aimed at helping individuals save tax and get credits on a wide scale, ranging from energy efficiency to vehicle purchase. The tax reforms will also help citizens take home larger pay check enabling them to pay off their credit card debts, mortgage, etc. Here is a look at some of the reforms made under the tax debt relief act.
Making Work Pay
To enable hardworking American individuals and families in taking home larger pay check, to better support themselves and their families, the government introduced the making work pay tax credit. Under this reform changes were made in the federal income tax withholding tables allowing salaried individuals to make up to USD 400 tax credit. It was extended to married couples also allowing them up to USD 800. Pensioners with an earned income also qualify for this program along with entrepreneurs making this a blanket reform covering most of the population.
Vehicle Owners
Individuals who spent their hard-earned incomes on purchasing a new vehicle in the year 2009 can benefit from the vehicle owners tax credit initiated under the ARRA. People who purchased vehicles costing up to USD 49,500 in the year 2009 are eligible for this tax credit. These individuals can deduct the various taxes they paid during the purchase of the vehicle from their tax debt. To help you better understand local and state sales tax paid during the purchase is deductible from your debt. In areas where sales tax is not levied individuals can deduct the fees they paid for purchase of the said vehicles.
Energy Efficiency
Recognizing the importance of energy efficiency the government has decided to reward home energy efficiency and renewable energy incentives. Tax credit to homeowners has been increased to 30 percent on all qualifying improvements made. Some of the improvements include energy-efficient heating and air conditioning systems along with energy-efficient exterior windows. Under this new reform the maximum credit that can be earned is raised to $ 1,500 for changes and improvements made in the year 2009-2010.
Homeowners
This reform was initiated to help the out of control mortgage scenario in the US markets. This tax reform allowed people who entered into a binding contract to buy a home on or before April 30 2010 to claim a tax refund. The tax refund can go up to USD 8,000 and to claim it, homeowners had to include a copy of Form HUD-1, Settlement Statement, or other settlement statement, showing all parties' names, property address, sales price and date of purchase.
Health Insurance
To help senior citizens deal with the prevailing economic conditions the government initiated the Health Coverage Tax Credit (HCTC). Under this program the government will pay up to 80 percent of health insurance premiums of eligible candidates. Pensioners in the age group of 55 to 65 qualify for this incentive. This tax credit introduced as part of the national debt relief program is aimed at extending the benefits of ARRA to the aging population.
One of the other tax credit offered under the tax debt, relief program was the earned income tax credit which was designed to help American families tide over these difficult times.
