About Tap Defense

Before I go into outlining Tap Defense strategy, let me introduce you to the game basics. Tap Defense is a strategy based video game developed by Tap Joy game developers, exclusively for the Apple iPhone platform. As far as I know, there is no Tap Defense for computer platform. I searched for it online, but didn't find any. Let's hope, in future, we will be able to download and enjoy it on our computer. Although I didn't find Tap Defense for PC, there may be many similar strategy games, that you could play on your computer.

The game has amazing graphics with simple to use controls. The theme of the game is all about guarding the 'Gates of Heaven' from the evil unleashed from hell. You are the guardian tower masters who must stop their invasion through the use of strategically built towers. If you recall playing 'Age of Empires' or 'Age of Mythology', you will remember the various towers that can be built to create a line of defense. On similar lines, Tap Defense is all about building and upgrading towers endowed with different powers to stop the advance of the enemy along paths. You have some limited resources and gold reserves, to build, research and upgrade towers. You need to smartly decide on which towers to build and where.

There are various types of towers to choose from, with varying power and building costs. They are arrow towers, bomb towers, water towers, earthquake towers, magic towers and ice towers. In all, you need to clear 42 game levels in order to win and stop seven different types of enemies. You need to know the functionality and cost of building of every tower, before you go ahead. Keep an eye on Tap defense scoring system as you keep progressing through the game, so that, if you fail to win the game this time the knowledge might come handy the next time. With that knowledge, you can effectively devise a strategy to win this game.

Tap Defense Strategy: Guidelines

Here are some things to remember while devising your strategy. There are more than one Tap Defense strategies that can help you cruise through the levels. Instead of enumerating a Tap defense walk-through, I provide basic principles of defense here, that will help you out.
  • Instead of opting for a brute force strategy of building high number of towers, build few in strategic locations. Understand the functionality and decide the position of the tower accordingly. For example, water towers are good at slowing down enemies and therefore, placing them at bends is a good strategy.
  • Use towers that cost more (like the magic and earthquake towers) sparingly. Let arrow towers be your mainstay as they are most economically built.
  • Create traps using different towers placed in succession.
  • Give top priority to upgrade the towers to higher levels. Use halos to upgrade your interest.
  • Continue sharpening and modifying your strategy as you go ahead to higher levels.
As video game veteran players will tell you, to beat every game, you need to master the system which underlies it. Great games are built in such a way, that they provide more than one way of winning. With practice, you can easily master the strategy to win in Tap Defense. Just try out new things at every attempt and stick to the things that work. Unlike life, video games do give you a second chance to make amends!
