The building was constructed over a period of three years from 1970-1973. On its completion in 1974, the Willis Tower surpassed the World Trade Center (New York City) to become the world's tallest. Even though it is the 7th tallest building in the world as of today, Willis Tower has ruled the top spot for a record 25 years.
