Symptoms of Ovarian Cysts are a Warning Sign

Neglected ovarian cysts can cause a great deal of suffer. Discover the symptoms and cures of ovarian cysts.
Ovarian cysts are of an elusive nature and often escape our attention. This is due to the absence of distinct, prominent symptoms that give them away. In fact, many women remain unaware of their presence and may chance upon the cysts during a routine abdominal examination or an ultrasound test that was carried out entirely for a different purpose. Most ovarian cysts appear and disappear by themselves, never making their presence felt except as some minor discomfort or an intermittent pain in the lower abdomen. However, there are actually some latent symptoms that one should watch out for as understanding these symptoms of ovarian cysts not only will help you in identification, but will also help you understand them better.

Two of the most common symptoms of ovarian cysts are lower pelvic or abdominal pain that might begin and end abruptly and irregular, untimely menstrual periods. There are others too. These symptoms of ovarian cysts include a feeling of fullness in the lower pelvic and abdominal regions, long-term pain in the pelvic girdle during periods that may extend to the lower back, varying degrees of difficulty with bowel movements or urination, vomiting and nausea, blood spots from vagina or vaginal uneasiness, painful sexual union, breast tenderness and frequent urination due to cystic pressure on the bladder and abnormal weight gain. However, it should also be borne in mind that these symptoms are generic in nature and could also be associated with other conditions such as endometriosis, ectopic pregnancy or sundry pelvic inflammatory ailments.

Other symptoms of ovarian cysts include a feeling of dizziness or light-headedness, an unexplained tired feeling, low fever, respiratory problems such as shortness of breath or quick breathing and a persistent abdominal pain. In some cases, the formation of very large cysts in the ovary can make the pain even more intense.

Ovarian cysts sometimes rupture or break, which can complicate the condition and trigger off a host of new symptoms. Often this happens when the size of the cyst is large or when the cyst has been there for a long time and no action was taken due to the woman not knowing about it or due to sheer negligence. The most prominent of these is aggravated pain and sudden bleeding from the vagina. Sometimes, a cyst can get twisted or may cause the fallopian tube to become warped, both leading to very painful conditions. Ovarian cyst symptoms may be listed as follows:

Irregular periods and menstrual cycle. Changes in the volume of discharge too
Pelvic, non-menstrual pain
Acute pain in pelvic region after sexual intercourse
Tenderness and pain in the lower thighs
Abnormal stress on the urinary bladder and/or rectum
Feeling of heaviness in the lower abdominal area
Nausea and urge to vomit (as experienced in the early stages of pregnancy)

Fortunately ovarian cysts are mostly non-malignant in nature. In other words, they are non-cancerous in nature. However, due to their elusive nature, women of childbearing age should undergo regular abdominal check ups to determine their presence.

Upon being diagnosed with ovarian cysts, one needs to initiate a medical treatment as soon as possible. Starting a process of treatment early helps in avoiding many possible complications in the future. Neglecting the cysts can cause them to rupture and worsen the condition. However, just a symptomatic treatment is not good enough. What one needs is to do is adopt a holistic mode of treatment which will help in removing all the real causes of ovarian cysts and will safeguard our future from any possible future attack. Conventional medications on the other hand just concentrate on the cyst without really trying to find out why they appeared, and thus the cyst almost always returns, because the real cause remains within the body.
