Symptoms of High Blood Pressure

Symptoms of high blood pressure are covert and quite harmless looking. You may have been unwittingly experiencing symptoms of high blood pressure but not realized it. So it is important to learn what are the symptoms of high blood pressure.
Symptoms of High Blood Pressure
Blood pressure is basically a measure of the pressure that the flow of blood is exerting on the blood vessels. A normal blood pressure rate is said to be around the 120/80 mark. If your blood pressure is lower than 115/75, you have a low blood pressure, while if it is higher than 140/90 you have a high blood pressure. Either way, it is troublesome as both low and high blood pressure have their share of problems.

High blood pressure is caused due to two reasons. Sometimes the heart beats harder and faster due to physical activity which causes blood pressure to rise temporarily. At other times, bottlenecks are created in the blood vessels due to cholesterol deposits. These deposits restrict the flow of blood, making the heart to pump harder. This pumping in turn exerts more pressure on the blood vessels driving the blood pressure higher. And if the heart is asked to pump faster or there is a bloods vessel blockage, amongst other diseases, it is going to lead to heart diseases and stroke.

High blood pressure is said to be a silent killer due to its very nature. We all know that a high blood pressure problem can lead to fatal consequences such as stroke. But we might not even be knowing that we are suffering from high blood pressure. The reason for that is, while other diseases show some or the other distinctive symptoms, high blood pressure cannot be detected so obviously. Yes, high blood pressure symptoms are so day-to-day, that you might not even know that you have a high blood pressure problem. In this article, I want to make you aware and put you on your guard. The symptoms of high blood pressure are given below. If you are experiencing one or more of these problems, you should go and consult a doctor.

High Blood Pressure Symptoms

If you have a high blood pressure i.e. a blood pressure of over 140/90, you might show the following symptoms of high blood pressure.
  • Headaches: Headaches are the most common symptoms of high blood pressure. High blood pressure related headaches are not too different from normal ones, but if you are getting a headache a bit too often, then high blood pressure might be the cause
  • Dizziness: Following up the headache, a person suffering from a high blood pressure also feels very dizzy. This maybe because there may not be a proper flow of blood to the brain.
  • Nausea: This symptom is again related to the dizziness and headache as chronic headaches will cause nausea.
  • Blurred Vision: You must have understood by now that blood pressure symptoms are arising mostly where the bottlenecks in the blood vessels are situated. Continued blurred vision indicates that there may be a little blockage for the blood reaching the eyes.
  • Fatigue: People who have high blood pressure often are very tired. This is perhaps because less blood may be reaching the parts of the body that are being exerted and they always feel tired.
  • Difficulty in Breathing: This one is a fairly obvious symptom and it means that the problem of high blood pressure has reached a very advanced level and curative action needs to be taken immediately.
  • Irregular Heartbeat and Pounding in Chest/Ears/Neck: This one is perhaps the most dangerous and most obvious of all the symptoms of high blood pressure. It may mean that there is a problem in more than just one blood vessel.
These were the general symptoms of high blood pressure. The problem with blood pressure is that the symptoms can't be seen till the problem reaches an advanced stage. At that stage maybe the problem will have become irreversible. So, it is better that you get your blood pressure checked from your physician regularly.
