Although there are no hard and fast rules for writing messages for sympathy cards, you can always refer to the following tips.
As said earlier, sympathy messages for cards or condolence messages are nowhere close to messages which are written for happy occasions. So, it is advisable that the words of condolence must form relatively short messages.
- Blue or black ink is preferable for writing the messages and remember to maintain neatness.
- E-cards are suitable for birthdays and the likes. Sending real handwritten sympathy cards help to add a personal touch to the messages.
- Addressing the card to the closest relative of the deceased person is suitable if you knew the person very well.
- Identifying yourself or citing proper references on the sympathy card is equally important to be taken care of. Last name must be included on the card along with the return address.
- "In the night of death, hope sees a star, and listening love can hear the rustle of a wing" - Robert Ingersoll.
- "While we are mourning the loss of our friend, others are rejoicing to meet him behind the veil" - John Taylor.
- "Oh heart, if one should say to you that the soul perishes like the body, answer that the flower withers, but the seed remains" - Kahlil Gibran.
- "Name of deceased" will always remain in our hearts and memories.
- "The angels are always near to those who are grieving, to whisper to them that their loved ones are safe in the hand of God" - Eileen Elias Freeman.
- "A grave is braced not just by a tombstone but by angels as well" - Adabella Radici.
- "Next to love, sympathy is the divinest passion of the human heart" - Edmund Burke.
- "He spake well who said that graves are the footprints of angels" - Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
