Switch off Lights on Earth Hour
Earth Hour is celebrated on 28th March, 2009 (Saturday), when India along with many international capitals will switch off its lights for 1 hour(08:30 pm-9:30 pm) and show its ardent towards combating the harmful effects of global warming or climatic changes.
India is now firmly stands up against global warming and will switch off its light for an hour(08:30pm-9:30pm) on March 28, 2009. This 1 hour will be celebrated as the Earth Hour when all over the world people will switch off their non essential lights in a bid towards pledging for standing against climatic changes. The lights will be called off for 1 hour show and it shows India's ardent towards saving green planet from ill affects of global warming.
Global warming is the condition in which there is a rise in the average temperature of the Earth's near surface air and oceans. From the last 100 years, the sudden increase in the temperature is recorded from 0.74 ± 0.18 °C (1.33 ± 0.32°F) .
Such lights out initiative was first began in Sydney where in year 2007, people observed Earth Hour as a one city environmental campaign. It has emerged into grassroots action and has attracted the whole world with its unique style and motive. In 2008 also 35 nations have participated in such campaign and turned out their lights as a united call for taking immediate steps on climate change.
In India, WWF is actively engage towards encouraging people to join the said campaign in a large number and switch off there lights for an hour. The WWF is recognized as one of the largest and most respected independent conservation organization in throughout the world. Mr. Ravi Singh, Secretary General & CEO of WWF, asserted that Earth Hour is an initiative of whole world towards saving Earth and for combating the hazardous climatic conditions. The campaign encompasses tremendous potentiality of affecting sound policy and participation of public on the issue.
The Earth Hour is an unprecedented communication attempt of making every one to understand what they must. Till now total 37 national capitals and some other great metropolis of the world have give n their consent on Earth Hour Campaign. The list of participating cities include London, Paris, Beijing, Rome, Moscow, Los Angeles, Rio de Janeiro, Hong Kong, Dubai, Singapore, Athens, Buenos Aires, Toronto, Sydney, Mexico City, Istanbul, Copenhagen, Manila, Las Vegas, Brussels, Cape Town, Helsinki, New Delhi and Mumbai.
