Sweet Dreams - Part 4

Here is chapter 4. Please read and enjoy! Oh and please leave a comment, thanks.
Later that night I was sitting in my room when the voice visited me again.
"You have to get to know him for it to work."
"For what to work?"
"You know what, he's never going to be able to tell you anything if you don't talk to him."
"Talk to who? The boy?"
"Yes."
"But, I don't want to be best friends with him! He's... weird."
"You judge people, without knowing them."
"Do not!"
"Yes, my dear, you do."
"Don't."
"I'm not arguing dear, you need to realize the truth sometimes."

I sigh, and get up, grabbing my coat and heading out the door. I walk across the road with determination, and raise my hand to knock on their door, just as I was about to hit it the first time, it swung open and a pretty girl a few years older than me was standing there.

"Saw ya coming, guess you're here to see my brother."
"Yes mam, I am."
"Oh, don't call me mam," she says with a laugh, you can call me Steph."
I smile at her, feeling a warmth overpower me, she was so gentle and nice.

"Okay... Steph, yes I am here for your brother, if that's okay, … if he's here."
"Oh, I think he's around somewhere. I'll check in his room, if you want you can come and wait in the kitchen."

"Sure, thanks," I say as she leads me through a dark hallway, filled with spiders and cobwebs. I shiver, not from the cold, but because I am terrified of spiders. They creep me out.
"Sorry bout the spiders, we leave em' there because we find them fascinating."
"Great," I say with fake enthusiasm hoping, she won't notice, but of course, she did.
"You're scared of them aren't you," she asks next turning to glance at me before turning back around.

I nod even though she wasn't looking at me anymore.
"Well we're almost to the room, so hold tight."

I nod again, and sigh with relief when we come to a door, Steph knocks loudly on the door and then slowly opens it, thinking the boy was there, I try to peer around Steph's head. Seeing he wasn't there, Steph turned around and looked back at me again

"Well," she said, "I guess he went over to his new favorite place in the woods, I'll show you the path and let you be on your way."

In a short while, I was heading down a path in the woods, that unless it was pointed out to you, you'd never notice it was there. It was getting dark by the time I made it to an opening. I could hear someone singing and playing a guitar. I must say, they were actually really good! I follow the noise and see the boy sitting on a rock singing and playing, slowly and quietly I walk over hoping he wouldn't realize I was there and stop.

When I was directly behind him, he paused in his song, and without looking back, said in a quiet voice, "You can sit down."

"Thanks," I sit beside him as he plays, and sings. Relief filling within me, happiness I haven't felt in a long time, finally finding its way back.
"Peaceful huh?" He stops and asks.

I nod, and he puts down his guitar.
"How'd you find me?"
"Oh, um your sister showed me the path, it's so pretty down here."
"I know, I love coming out here, and just watching everything, my mind works best on this rock."
"Hey, I have a question." I say remembering the incident earlier. "How did my book hit brandon?"
"Your book?"
"Yes, my history book.... you did it, didn't you!?"

He shook his head, "Listen, I know you have questions, and I know all of this is confusing you, but I can't talk about it, just forget everything, okay?"
I nod, even though I wanted to say no.
"Promise."
I nod again, this time not able to shake my head no.
"Good," he puts his hand on my shoulder and smiles, "You, my Casey, are something special, come on, I'll walk you back."

He picked up his guitar, and took a hold of my elbow, guiding me through the path and up to my front door, where he bids me good night.
"Night," I reply and walk inside, looking back outside I see him head over to his house, open the door, and head inside.

You know? I say to the voice hoping it was listening, "You were right, I was judging him, but still, there is no way, NO way, we will ever be best friends."

That is where you are wrong, you will be best friends.... and more....
