Swedish Meatball Gravy Recipes

Recipe # 1
Ingredients
- Four lb. hamburger
- One teaspoon garlic powder
- One lb. pork sausage
- Four tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- Three onions (minced)
- Two cups of bread crumbs
- Four cups corn soup
- One packet of brown gravy
- Eight Cups Sour Cream
Take a large bowl and mix sausages, hamburger, garlic powder, chopped onions, Worcestershire sauce and cracker crumbs in it. Knead the mixture properly. Now, take a small quantity of this mixture and make, small ball shapes from it. Separately, take a pan and heat oil in it. Put the balls into the oil and fry until, golden brown.
Procedure for the Gravy
Take a pan and put little oil in it. Now pour the corn soup, brown gravy and sour cream into the pan. Let the mixture come to a boil.
After the gravy has been prepared, take a baking dish and place the meatballs prepared earlier on it. Pour the gravy on top of the meatballs and keep it in the oven for baking at 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
Recipe # 2
Ingredients
- Four lbs. meat (chopped)
- Two cups of milk
- Two cups of bread crumbs
- Two onions (minced)
- Four eggs
- Melted butter
- Nutmeg
- Salt
- Rind of one lemon (grated)
- Four cups of meat stock
- Two cups of sour milk
- Parsley
- Six tablespoons flour
Take a bowl and mix bread crumbs, milk and meat together. Take a pan and put the butter in it. Sauté onions in the oil, and after that add them to the mixture prepared earlier. Beat the eggs and pour them over the mixture too. Knead the mixture properly with your hands. After that, form small, round shapes of the mixture. Take a pan, pour melted butter in it and fry the balls in it.
Procedure for the Gravy
Take a large bowl and mix the meat stock and the flour in it. Now pour this mixture in a pan and heat it. Add the grated lemon rind to the mixture.
Put the meatballs into the gravy and let them simmer for about an hour on very low. After one hour, remove the meatballs and place them in a dish. Separately pour the sour cream in a pan and heat it slightly. Pour the sour cream over the meatballs, add parsley and salt to taste.
While cooking lay great emphasis on the preparation of the gravy as it lends a distinctive taste to the meatballs. An authentic way to prepare a Swedish-style gravy is to use plum sauce as the main ingredient in its preparation. According to me meatballs prepared with plum sauce gravy are the best Swedish meatball gravy recipes I have ever come across. You can serve them with noodles or rice, depending upon your taste.
