Surrounding Darkness 2 Sneak Peak

Hey, currently my house is yellow tagged which means I can't live in it. The power is out so I can't even use the computer. I get on whenever i can at others houses...anyways, enjoy!!

Winter ran into the forest, branches scraping her scaled face, her claws slashing the twigs as she sprinted through. She paused to catch her breath in a clearing. She bent over, breath labored, heart racing. Laughter reached her ears, and she opened her eyes. Standing upright she searched the area.

Nothing.

The laughter keeled over, a freezing trickle falling down Winter's spine.

"You can't be here," she whispered into the darkness of the forest, "you can't! GO AWAY!"

She spun around as laughter rose up behind her. A man had a smile on his evil lips, blood red hair, and red eyes that stared at her with such cruelty, fear rose up in Winter's throat. She stumbled back, falling to the ground. He laughed again.

"You forgot me, Winter, Why?"

"Please," Winter begged, "I've done nothing wrong! I've been a good girl!"

He sighed and knelt down next to her.

"Remember the poor family you saved from the robbers? Remember you sheltered those children in your house as the storm rolled in? Every act of kindness, Winter, is an act against me. Then you forgot me. Why? What is my name, Winter? Maybe that will jog your memory."

Winter pushed away from him slowly, "I-I don't know you, please, let me go!"

His jaw tightened, and he gripped her wrist. Winter rose her other claw to strike against him, but he caught it before she even came close. He pushed her arms down, black ropes appearing and catching her wrists, pulling them into the ground, rendering them useless. More black ropes wrapped around her ankles, tying themselves to nearby trees. The man got up, staring down at her.

"You really don't remember me," he said, scanning her surprised face.

"How did you-"

"Repeat my name: Shadow."

"I don't know-"

"SAY IT!!" he shouted, raising his hand as if he was going to strike her.

"Shadow!" Winter screamed, terrified. Her face went blank, everything that he did to her, everything she had tried to forget, came rushing back to her. A smirk of victory appeared on Shadow's lips. Winter swallowed hard, terrified eyes moving up to look at Shadow.

"Shadow," Winter said in a weak voice. "But you-you d-"

"Died?" Shadow chuckled, kneeling down next to her again, fingering her scaled face. Winter swallowed again, "You're back, you're back."

Shadow was back.
