Surfing the Web: The Real Paradise (Chapter 7)

The end! I'm not going to give you hints at what happened, you'll have to read to find out ;)
We walked in confidently. Shelley had the first task to do. She walked over to Brent, disguise-less, and asked him quietly, "You know, I don't think we've ever thrown you a birthday party before. How about we do that? We'll just blindfold you, so you'll be surprised, and then when we're ready someone will come and get you. It'll be super fun!"
Valerie and I watched from a distance so it didn't look suspicious. He nodded; he must have fallen for it! I high-five Valerie and we run over to Brent to do our part. I used my scarf and we blindfolded him.

"Announcement, announcement!" Shelley belted out. "Today, we are throwing Brent a party! So he's going to stay here and we're going to go out and set up a party!" Shelley winked. "So come on."

I tell Brent to make sure he doesn't peek and run out. When we get down to the coast, next to the tree, we tell everyone the real reason we're down there. "Everyone, we found the key! The key to get us out of here! All we have to do is find a keyhole in the tree and we'll be free! So everyone help!"

Everyone yelps and squeals and hurries to the tree. I couldn't imagine their joy since they had been there so much longer than I had. It took a while but someone finally yelled out, "I found it!" We all gathered around and sure enough the key fit. Shelley pulled and the tree opened just like a normal door would. I look back towards the diner thinking of how Brent's face would look like when he figured out we all left. But I didn't have to imagine it because he was running right towards us. He must have peeked and saw us. I yelled out for them to hurry. People stopped observing it and jumped in. Brent was getting closer and closer. He was a step away when I grabbed the key out the tree and jumped to safety, closing the door behind me.

My room back home was filled with strangers. People aging from 20 to 50 to 80. I guess back in the real world, everyone's true age showed. A very old woman came to me and hugged me. I could tell by her eyes that it was Shelley. I hugged back. Mom was there, grinning wildly, and had her arms opened wide for a hug. I ran to her and thanked her so much. More tears came but they were from relief. It was so good to be home. Mom shook everyone's hand and informed them with vital details like the date and where they were. In a few minutes everyone left. Valerie stayed the night so we could recover the shock of everything that has happened together.

We barely talked that night; just watched TV without paying attention. It wasn't until next morning when we talked over what really happened.

"What did you ask him when you two went by the counter?" Valerie questioned me.
"Well, remember when I came back from going to see Max and was crying? It was because I saw him and Macy talking. They were going to go out for ice cream. I was asking Brent if he could come out of the program to make Max jealous." I was squeezing my plush pillow, remembering the sight of Max drooling over Macy.

"Oh, I'm sorry. How are you going to react around Max now? Please don't be like those girls from the movies where they get all scared and run away!" Valerie acted like she saw a ghost and let out a high-pitched shriek. I whacked her with my pillow and we laughed.
"No, I promise you I won't be like them. Let's go to the beach after we change and I'll face seeing him. I'll have to get over him sooner or later. You know, escaping from The Surfing Paradise really changed me. I think it has made me braver. I could face anything!" I stand up, my arm out like I was a superhero. And I was. I helped many escape from an evil villain. Wouldn't you call that a superhero?

I took a green tank top and brown Capri's out of my dresser and handed them to Valerie. I took a blue halter dress for me and went to the bathroom to change. When I returned, Valerie was all dressed and had my jewelry box open.

"You should at least look stellar so Max wishes he chose you." She took out a white necklace and charm bracelet. She holds them out to my dress and mutters something to herself. She throws the necklace over my head and squeezed my hand into the bracelet. Admiring her work, a big grin takes over her face.

We rush out and run down to the beach. The weather was perfect; pretty warm with a breeze. We set out a towel on a flat sandy area. I was taking out my pail when Max started walking up. I admired his eyes and realized that he was better looking than Brent. I wished I could just forget my crush on Max, he was already taken.

"Kelsey? Could I talk to you?" He eyes Valerie. Taking the hint, Valerie gets up and runs over to the shack. He continues once she's gone, "I was just wondering if you wanted to, maybe, go on a date. Maybe the movies this Friday?"
What?! I wanted to scream. "What about Macy? Weren't you two going on a date, for ice cream?" I asked calmly.

"What? No! No, no, no! I was tutoring her. Her mom's making her take lessons over the summer. I would never go on a date with Macy. She's so...fake. It just seems like she's not what she looks like on the surface." I couldn't help from smiling like a maniac. Max could see through Macy's exterior! He liked me more than her!

"Then yes! I'll go out with you. I think I'm free on Friday." I reply quickly.
He smiles and run off. Valerie must have been eavesdropping because she came back smiling. We grab each other's arms and jump up and down. This is the real paradise!
