Surfing the Web: Hair Twirling (Chapter 4)

Kelsey finds her crush talking with her biggest enemy. She escapes the drama by going back to the digital beach.
Splash! I trudged into the waves. They were really wild today so I challenged Valerie to see who could run the farthest before getting pulled back from the water. I usually own at this game so I challenge her every time the water's like this. However, this time, she kept winning because my mind was full of what happened the night before.

"I'm done, Val! Can we take a break?" I swam to the coast before she answered. Luckily, she followed me to our towel.

"Do you have something on your mind, Kelsey? You seem a little...distant." Valerie asked when we sat down and added another coat of sun lotion. There she was, caring about me. But should I tell her? She is my best friend. Ok, I'll try but it's not my fault if she doesn't believe me.

"Well, would you believe me if I told you there was another world inside my computer?" Valerie looked dumbfounded. "I knew you wouldn't believe me!"
"Wait, just wait! So are you truly telling me, no joke, that there is an alternate universe inside your computer?"

"I know it sounds crazy but I've never been more serious! I downloaded some surfing website and I got sucked into my computer! It was this paradise- and with this really cute boy there too! If you don't believe me come with me next time!"

"Fine, fine, you can show me later but can we get back to this universe now? I just saw Max walk behind the shack!" Valerie turned me around and pulled me up. I take a few steps and look back for reassurance. She gave me a smile and a thumbs-up. I kept walking. Valerie and I talked earlier that morning and I finally decided to ask Max out. I've been falling head over heels for him since 5th grade; it's finally time! I turned around the corner but instantly paused.

Valerie was right, Max was behind there. And so was Macy. They were what looked like just centimeters away and talking. Macy was talking slowly and twirling her hair. She was definitely trying to flirt with him. And the worse part, it looked like he was falling for it.
I ran behind a bush nearby to eavesdrop in their conversation. I only hear bits. "Want to.... out...me? Yeah...let's go to...for desserts....evening." Even though I couldn't hear it all I got the message and it wasn't good. He melted right into her hands like putty. He melted...melted... What did that remind me of? Then it struck; Brent. I just wished he was real so I could make Max jealous with him. Well, did they ever say I couldn't take them out the program? It could maybe work. I ran out of the bush but was caught.

"Hey, Kelsey! Over here!" Max waved me over to where he and Macy stood. Macy smirked when I strode up. "Macy and I are going out tonight for ice cream for-" I waved my hand signaling that I didn't want to hear about it and walked off, head down. Valerie could tell something was wrong right away when I came back.

"Oh, Kelsey, what happened?" I didn't reply and we left it at that. I called home to ask my mom to pick us up. I also asked if Valerie could stay the night. Tonight will be when we leave off to The Surfing Paradise.

"Let me warn you, at first it's kind of scary but when you relax, it's soothing. And when we first arrive, keep your eyes closed. It's ten times brighter than here." I was prepping Valerie on going to The Surfing Paradise. I hadn't told her about my plan to bring Brent back yet. It might not even work so what's the point of telling her? I didn't want her thinking I lost my mind.

"Ok, Kels, you can just drop the act. Both of us know there is no way-" I shoved her down in the chair and clicked on the surfboard icon. The loading message came up. It seemed to shut her up. I heard a voice again this time. But instead of being the computer like last time, it really was coming from my door. Mom.

I reached for the mouse to exit out. It would make her go crazy if she saw us get launched into my Mac. So close, but not close enough. We were sucked in right before I had the chance to exit out. I heard Mom shouting and- Thud! Oh great, I think she fainted. I'll have a lot of explaining to do when I come back.
