They should be interesting and fun, at the same time add to their knowledge and skills. Given below are some innovative and easy to conduct summer projects for you to choose from.

Fun Summer Projects

Find a Job
Summer activities for kids should be designed in such a way that they help them in building and learning new skills. But prior to learning new skills, knowledge of one's capabilities and skills which a child already has, is equally important. And what better way to make a child understand this by making him write a resume and look for a summer job. As parents, you can guide your child on how to write a resume and what kind of jobs to look for. Some of the possible jobs that very small children can do are bathing and grooming a pet, watering the plants, etc. Kids who are ten to twelve years old, may babysit one's own siblings or other small children of the neighbors or relatives.

When you are helping your child with his resume or his job, you will get an opportunity to teach him values such as hard work, discipline and responsibility. In case, your child finds a job and earns money, you can teach him money management. And even if he is not able to find a job, you can set a goal for him to learn a new skill which will help him to find a job in the next vacation.

Become a Reporter
One of the most interesting projects, which will add to their creativity, comprehension and writing skills, is to have them act as reporters and interview all their relatives and friends you visit during the holidays and later compile the entire information in a written report. To make this enjoyable, help your child come up with some really engaging questions. Below is a list of questions that you can take inspiration from.
  • What was your favorite hobby as a child? Do you still pursue it?
  • Which was your favorite sport in school? Were you in any sports team during your school days?
  • Which has been your favorite family vacation? What do you remember most about it?
  • Did you enjoy going to school? Which was your favorite subject?
  • How did you spend your summer vacations? Did you attend any kids summer camp?
  • What kind of summer jobs did you do? Were you good at them?
  • Who was your role model when you were growing up?
Art Projects

Summer Themes
You can plan summer art projects by revolving the kids around a particular theme. Some summer themes that your kids will enjoy working on are beaches, ice creams, flowers and holidays. All you have to do is to give them water colors, paints, crayons, pencils and markers and make them paint on any of these themes. You can take one theme per week and let the children draw and paint whatever comes to their mind, or alternately you can show them some magazine cut outs and then ask them to paint. For example, if you have chosen a beach as the theme, children can draw colorful fish one day, the sun on another day, sand and people sitting on it on the third day and so on. To make these projects interesting, at the end of the week you can gather all their drawings and hang them with a string, across their room.

Scrapbook
Making a scrapbook is another fabulous craft idea for children, which will keep them occupied throughout the summer. For this, whatever activity you conduct, be it cooking or drawing or gardening, take numerous photographs of each of them. Also, choose the best among the drawings which your kids made. Sit with them and paste these photographs and drawings in a scrapbook. To make scrapbooking fun, let your kids come up with a caption for each page of the scrapbook.

Whether the summer projects that you finally choose involve art activities, crafts or cooking, make sure that your children thoroughly enjoy themselves when they are working on it. And of course, you should have fun with your kids too. All the best!
