Summer 9

He closed his eyes and continued to sleep while leaning at the back of the chair. Emma woke up and glance at Daniel who was sleeping with difficulty. There was a small pillow between them so she took the pillow and put it in Daniel's head so it serves as his pillow. Her cell phone rang so she answered it quickly so everybody won't be awakened.

"Hello?"

"Hi Emma", the voice in the phone said.

"Richard! How are you? I missed you so much", Emma said. Richard is Emma's older brother. He's a year older than Emma. He is studying in Oxford.

"I'm okay. I'll arrive tomorrow. Could you tell mum and dad", the voice that named Richard said.

"Oh, no. I'll just try. I'll be in my friends resort because of her summer party and I'm going to be back when summer ends", Emma said sadly.

"Who's summer party? Is it Nicole", Richard asked.

"Yes", Emma said.

"I miss going to Nicole's summer party", Richard said laughing.

"Oh, it's okay. I'll be the one to tell mum and dad", Richard said.

"So, guess I'll never get to see you", Emma said with great disappointment.

"Well, we're staying there for the whole year or maybe I'm going to continue my studies there", Richard said.

"Sure? Well, great", Emma said excitedly.

"I'm sure Nicole's parents will invite mum and dad like before and maybe we'll come and stay for two nights like before", Richard said.

"I'm looking forward to that", Emma said half-laughing.

"So have a nice trip and see you soon. Bye", Richard said.

"Bye", Emma said and the two hung up. The van stopped and they are now in the parking space beside the house that's why it was dark. Emma was the only one who noticed that they arrived because Sabrina had fallen asleep so she tapped her fingers on Daniel's shoulder to wake him up.

"Dan, wake up. We're here", Emma said as she continued to tap her fingers on Daniel's shoulder. Daniel woke up.

"Are we there yet", Daniel asked. Emma laughed.

"We're already here", Emma said still laughing.

"Oh", Daniel said and then the door opened. Nicole's dad opened it.

"Come on guys! Wake up! Get your things!"

Mr. Jacobe is a funny and outgoing dad who gets along with the group. Nicole, Matt, Christine, Rico, Vanessa, Hadey and Sabrina woke up while the two kept quiet.

"Good morning dad", Nicole greeted as she kissed her dad's cheeks.

"Good morning Mr. Jacobe", Christine greeted then Vanessa, Rico, Matt, Sabrina, Hadey, Daniel and Emma. All ten of them including Mr. Jacobe went to the trunk. Mr. Jacobe opened it and let them take their bags.

Daniel grabbed his bag and saw Emma waiting for everyone to finish getting their bags so Daniel took hers.

"Here", Daniel said handing her bag.

"Thanks", Emma smiled. Sabrina saw the two of them. She went to him and tapped her fingers in Daniel's shoulder.

"Daniel, could you help me get my bag. It's up in there", Sabrina said. She grabbed Daniel's hand trying to get him away from Emma.

"Wait for me there", Daniel said while he was dragged by Sabrina. While Daniel was taking Sabrina's bag, Emma didn't wait for him. She walked away while Vanessa and Nicole were following her.

"You should have seen Sabrina's face", Vanessa said to Emma like it was a great achievement for her.

"Why? What happened", Emma asked.

"She was jealous with you again", Nicole said to Emma.

"What - what did I did", Emma asked again.

"You didn't notice? When you were sleeping, Daniel moved your head to lean at his shoulder and your hand accidentally fell and perched on top of Daniel's and it looks like you are holding his hand", Vanessa told Emma.

"Daniel was sleeping at that time when your hand fell upon his hand but when he woke up, he removed your hand and put it back on the pillow. Sabrina actually saw you two", Nicole told Emma.

"She denied when I asked her if she was jealous. She said that she was not the kind of girl that flirts around", Vanessa told Emma angrily with a little bit of happiness.

"And I asked her if she didn't mean herself. Then she didn't say something", Nicole said to Emma.

"Nicole, you totally kicked her head off", Vanessa said to Nicole and noticed Emma's mind-absentness. Nicole smiled.

"Thanks", Nicole said and grinned.

"Hey, Emma, are you still with us", Vanessa asked while snapping at Emma's face.

"Wha-oh, yes", Emma said.

"The bedrooms and the living room are upstairs and the kitchen and the dining room is downstairs. The house consists of three bedrooms and every room consists of three beds so the three of us will have the same room", Nicole said as they opened the door of their room.

Emma, Vanessa and Nicole put their bags beside each of their beds and lay at their beds.

"I'm hungry. Want to eat downstairs", Nicole asked.

"I'm in for that. Would you like to come, Emma", Vanessa asked.

"Yes! My stomach is grumbling", Emma said standing up and headed quickly to them.

The three of them went downstairs when they met Christine, Hadey and Sabrina in the stairs.

"Your room is beside ours. Our room is the first one you'll see when you enter", Nicole told Christine and Hadey then she pretended that she didn't see Sabrina.

Sabrina walked out and continued to walk upstairs fiercely.

"What's wrong with her", Hadey asked Emma after noticing Sabrina eyed Emma angrily before walking out.

"She was jealous of Emma because Daniel cared so much about Emma than her", Vanessa said.

"Do you want to come with us", Emma asked the two.

"Where're you going", Christine asked.

"We're going buy some foods", Nicole said.

"Okay. I'll go with you. Wait for me. I'll just go and put our stuff in the room and went with you. I don't want to be stuck there with Sabrina. I'm tired of hearing her saying 'you're clothes are really awful' or 'you're boy-friend Rico is really lame'. Ugh", Christine said.

It seems like Vanessa's world stopped when Christine said boy-friend. Vanessa thought that it meant her boyfriend but it actually meant her friend that was a boy. She felt that she was losing hope.

"Are you coming with us Hadey", Christine asked Hadey. Hadey smiled while nodding and she and Christine went upstairs quickly. Emma, Vanessa and Nicole waited downstairs while Vanessa was still silent. Nicole noticed her and nudged Emma. Emma turned and was surprised. Vanessa is sometimes noisy, funny girl but now she was quiet.

"Van, are you alright", Emma asked.

"Huh? Oh, yeah. I'm alright. I'm just thinking of something", Vanessa said still stunned to what Christine had said.

Christine and Hadey were coming hurriedly so Vanessa turned away trying not to look at Christine.

"What took you so long", Nicole asked the two of them when they finally arrived downstairs.

"It took us a very long time to get away from Sabrina", Hadey said with great exhaustion. They started walking and Vanessa was still silent and kept nearer to Emma's right.

"How", Emma asked. Emma noticed Vanessa and looked at her with a questioning expression. Vanessa shook her head in reply.

"She didn't want us to go but when she went to the bathroom, we quickly without making a noise", Christine said.

"Good! Now let's get going. I want to drink their strawberry shake. I totally missed their strawberry shake", Emma said. Emma tasted their strawberry shake last year in Nicole's birthday and became addicted to it.
