Summer 5

What will I say? He thought. When he turned back, ready to say hi, Emma was not there. She was heading back to her house. He opened his mouth but closed it back. He was wondering he would talk to her or not. Emma was nearly there so Daniel couldn’t do anything to stop her. To his disappointment, he kicked a stone high but missed it.

"Oooouch!!!!!!!!"

He fall backwards; landed on the street and felt his whole ached so he closed his eyes. Emma came running towards him. When he opened his eyes, the face of Emma blurred from the sun. After a few seconds, the face of Emma was clear and her hand outstretched for him to hold. He held the hand of Emma and she helped him stood up.

Well, that worked, he thought looking amazed.

"Are you okay? What happened? I just saw you standing and now you are on the floor", Emma asked while helping him standing up.

"I missed the stone from kicking", Daniel said truthfully. When Emma touched his arm, he shouted.

"Ouch!"

"Sorry", Emma apologizes.

"I’m going for a walk around the subdivision. Do you want to come", Daniel asked.
"Sure. It’s been a long time since the last time I walked with you here in this subdivision", Emma said.

"Uhm Dan, I’m sorry for not answering your e-mails. I thought – ", Emma said that broke the silence.

"It’s okay. I know that my e-mails are not that important", Daniel interrupted.

"No. I was just disappointed when you said that you like someone else", Emma said under her breath.

"Did you say something", Daniel said.

"I said that you’re e-mails are short and no need to be replied", Emma said faster.

Along the way, they met the cousins, Christy, Hadey and Sabrina.

"Daniel, you’re here", Sabrina said while Emma backed off as Sabrina hugged Daniel. She knew that Sabrina had a crush on Daniel and she don’t want to repeat the fight between her and Sabrina because of Daniel. Sabrina gets jealous of her everytime Emma gets near Daniel. She fought Emma for knowing the rumor that Emma and Daniel have a relationship but said sorry to Emma after knowing that it was not true. Still, Emma knew that it was just a show for Daniel to believe her that she was really sorry but she knew that she was not.

"Dan, I’ll wait for you there", Emma said while pointing a bench under a tree. Sabrina shot her an angry stare and turning her stare back again at Daniel.

As she walked away and sat unto the bench, she watched Daniel carefully.

"You like him", a voice inside her head said.

"No I don’t. He’s my friend", Emma said in a low voice.

"But you know you like him", it said again.

"I don’t", Emma said again. She stood up in the bench and walked away. She didn’t wait for Daniel to come with her.

"Emma, you like him."

"I don’t."

"You like him."

"I don’t."

"Emma!"

"I said I don’t!"

As she turned around, it was Daniel, hurrying towards her. She quickened her pace.

"Hey, hey! What did I do", he asked catching up at her. When he was beside her, he seized her shoulders and turns her softly towards him.

"What", she asked looking up at him.

"Why did you leave me there? I nearly died there talking with Sabrina. Good thing Christine and Hadey were there. They had to Sabrina away from me for me to escape."

"I’m sorry. I didn’t realize you were having a hard time there. But if I were with you there, Sabrina will make my life hell", she snapped at him.

"Emma", Daniel said softly letting go of her shoulders and looked into her glazing eyes. "I’m not blaming you. I’m just asking you why you left me back there."

"I said it already", she said irritably and walked ahead. Daniel waked beside her after a second and they walked in silence. As the silence became tensed, Daniel whistled. As Emma listened to Daniel whistling an off-key tune, she started to stifle a laugh. Suddenly, it was too much for her to take so she burst out laughing and stopped walking. Daniel stopped too suddenly was confused. A while ago she was mad at him for asking her and then she was laughing her heart out. Now What?! He thought.

"Are you okay", he asked then he himself saw humor in the situation and later on grinned.

"Until now you still whistle off-key", she said, chuckling as they continued their steps.

"I didn’t", he said.

"You didn’t what?" Emma was now confused.

"I do not whistle off-key", he defended.

"You do", she said teasingly, teasing the truth out.

"Okay, you win", Daniel said, laughing.

"Er, Daniel. I’m sorry", Emma said seriously.

"It’s okay but for what", Daniel joked wanting her to laugh.

Emma smiled. "For snapping at you like that. I didn’t mean to but there are many things going around in my head. I just don’t want Sabrina to feel that I’m being possessive to you so I left you. Sorry", she explained.

"It’s okay", he said.

"By the way---"

"Are you—"The two of them grinned.

"I just want to ask if you’re going to Nicole’s usual summer party", she asked.

"Yes, I’m going. Nicole just invited me this afternoon", Daniel said. They got home and Daniel walked Emma into her house. They bed goodbyes and when Emma was inside her house, he walked to his house and went directly to his bedroom.
