Suddenly - Sneak Peek

He watched his mobile spin, and attempted to reach the elephant on it. He had always had a fascination with elephants. It was their long trunks or their size that had caught his interest.
His fingers attempted to grab the elephant and he struggled to reach it. Soon, he had given up and laid down in his crib. He let out a whine, as he started to fall asleep, watching the mobile spin in round and round. His mother went into the kitchen and called his name as she finished making the dinner. The house had smelled as it always did. Chicken had stayed on the walls and it stayed there until hours later. But he didn't respond to her call.
She dropped the pan after she heard her dog shriek, a bang, and a car door slam. Without hesitation, she ran to her front yard to see a car turn the corner, five houses away. Her dog's shrill shriek had been silenced with a bullet to the head.
