Success University Scam?

Lately, Success University has been embroiled in a lot of controversy. Some people even go as far as calling it a 'scam'. Let's uncover the truth..
Internet has brought about revolutionary changes in our life. It has made things convenient and extremely simple for common people. While most people enjoy the various services offered by the Internet, there is this other enterprising lot which strives to harness the potential of the Internet to make money. For such people, Internet has become a tool for introducing and expanding their business. One can not imagine the ways in which the Internet can be exploited to make some quick bucks. While some of this enterprising lot stick to ethical practices, some other resort to making money by deception. This gives rise to many Internet hoaxes and frauds. One of them is the scam about Success University.

Concept Behind Success University

Success University was founded by a guy named Matt Morris in January 2005. It was widely publicized as an online university offering courses in business and personal development. The university does not have any professors nor does it have a physical campus. The students pay a fee and become entitled to the lectures from their 'mentors'. They are imparted knowledge on various Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) tactics to succeed in such business model. The concept of Success University is based on pyramid scheme which exploits the fundamentals of business networking model. The students are encouraged to promote the products and services of their company by creating a 'downline'. The existing students invite new students and get a specific amount as commission. The students also get commission on the new recruitment by their own students. Thus, the compensation plan works by passing the share of commission up till the apex of the pyramid. Needless to say, people on the top made more money than those at the bottom of the pyramid.

Is Success University Scam for Real?

Most people cry hoarse that Success University is an absolute scam and fraudulent company that duped its members of thousands of dollars. Success University offered an introductory program of 14 days at USD 2. If the recruits found that the training provided during this 14 day course was satisfactory, they could go to an advanced monthly program costing about USD 50 per month. Thus, the recruits always had the choice of pulling out of the program if they were not satisfied.

There indeed are thousands of people who did not benefit from Success University in any way. However, one must understand that these were mostly amateur people who did not know a thing about network marketing. They were simply lured by the 'get rich quick' advertisements of the Success University. Some of these students claim that they did not receive the guidance as promised nor did they avail the training from the so-called 'mentors' of Success University. Most of these students were left to do their own thing without any further directions. Thus, lack of proper knowledge and understanding about this particular business model forced people to incur losses in several hundred dollars.

Those who made money through this Internet business model have a different story to tell. These people cleverly harnessed the business opportunities offered by this type of model. They used Internet as a powerful tool of marketing and creating a strong downline. They had the requisite knowledge and impeccable insight of how things work in Internet marketing. They also knew certain MLM secrets which helped them excel in their business. Quite naturally, these people occupied higher positions in the hierarchy and enjoyed a bigger share of commission.

The merger of Success University came as a final blow to the students as they were left alone without any directions. In June 2009, Matt Morris decided to merge Success University with World Ventures, which is another MLM dealing in travels and tourism. Due to the incompatibility between the two companies the students incurred more losses. This reinforced the feeling of being scammed amongst the students. Thus, this can be a scam or not depending upon individual experiences.

Success University scam is a good lesson to all those who wish to make money via Internet. To succeed in this type of model, you first need to understand the nuances of the game before venturing out on your own.
