Submarine Force Museum - A Great Vacation and Travel Destination

Have you always wondered about the men who sailed to the bottom of the ocean in submarines? Did you wonder what it was like, how they lived, and what they experienced? If so, then you should definitely visit Connecticut’s Submarine Force Museum. This museum will let you into the lives of the men who sailed on these ships as well as the history of submarines. You can learn about the Bushnell’s Turtle that was used back in the Revolutionary days and all the other submarines up until the modern day ones of the Ohio and Virginia classes. There are even three periscopes you can check out that actually work!

You will appreciate the films shown on submarine history, how they began and evolved until present day. You can even check out an interactive computer program to see how submarines work! You will board the Nautilus and become a crew member on this sub. You can walk the decks and imagine what it was like to actually sail below the ocean. You can see where the crew members slept, ate, worked, and enjoyed their free time.

The Submarine Force Museum is located in Groton, Connecticut, on the Thames River. They have the best collection of submarine artifacts in the entire world. That means if you are a huge submarine fan you must visit this museum! The United States Navy operates the museum and it is the only one of its kind. Because of this, the museum receives all the artifacts, photos, and documents that would be pertinent to the museum.

The museum is open during the summer from May 1 to October 31 from 9 am until 5 pm daily and on Tuesdays from 1 pm until 5 pm. The ship closes at 4:45 pm. The museum is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Days.
