Style Advice for Women with an Hourglass Figure
Fashion tips and style advice from Fashion World for women who have an hourglass figure.
The Hourglass figure is characterised by a small waist in relation to a bigger bust and hips. If you have sought-after Hourglass curves, bear in mind it takes clever dressing to bring out your best. The main thing to remember is to go for fitted styles that show off that wonderful waist of yours. Otherwise it will be lost and no one will even know it’s there!
Square and sweetheart necklines will look stunning on your shape. Choose a fairly fitted style of top or, if you go for a longer top like a tunic, add a waist belt to show off your shape. Don’t be tempted to hide your bigger bust in high-necked tops. These will only make it look bigger and they can sometimes look a bit frumpy if you’re not careful. A lower neck will look much better on you – if it’s too much cleavage then layering a camisole underneath will work wonders.
It can be tricky to find button up tops like shirts, blouses and cardigans that fit well at the bust and the waist. You’ll find that a minimiser bra can help with those pesky gaping buttons!
Your shape was made for skirts and dresses – A-line and flared skirts will look best, especially those that flare from the waist rather than the hip, though pencil skirts can look fabulous too.
Most trouser styles will suit you, from skinnies through to wide legs. If you’ve got a big bum you will be better off in slightly higher waist styles rather than hipsters. Look for jeans and trousers with a bit of stretch in for a neat fit. If you’re worried about a muffin top then high waisted control pants are just the thing!
When it comes to jackets, think cropped to show off that waist. If you like a longer length coat, one that cinches in at the waist and then flares out is perfect. All belted styles are ideal for working those curves.
