Picture yourself at work. Imagine being in the busiest cycle on the busiest day of the week on the busiest week of the month on the busiest month of the year. Imagine unending phone calls with people who you can best describe as unintelligent rant and rave. In addition to that you have your boss breathing down your neck for a report, that you know isn’t important because they won’t read it. In further addition to that you have co workers who are not even try to hide the fact that they are doing nothing at all. You spouse is calling with the kids crying in the background and you are reaching the boiling point.

Okay let’s breathe.

Sounds pretty stressful right? How much useful work do you really believe that you could get done on that day, where the stress levels are through the roof? Now let’s look at another scenario.

You are sitting at your desk. The environment is busy, yet calm. You have a lot on your plate, but no one breathing down your neck, your co-workers are actually doing their jobs. Your spouse calls and the kids are screaming "I love you" in the background. Unfortunately the callers will probably still be on the verge of stupid, but they are easier to handle because the environment is lacking a lot of stressful elements.

Stress is bad for anyone, especially on children as it hinders them in becoming productive people. Signs of stress on a child can range from stomach aches, headaches, mood swings, bed wetting and emotional breakdowns. Like for anyone, sometimes stress is too much to handle and it is extremely detrimental. Instead of focusing on ways stress can mess your child up, I will go through ways you can create a stress free environment for them to thrive in.

Eating right – When a child doesn’t eat right it can throw off almost everything that they have to concentrate on because they are now concentrating on eating. Simply making sure that not just junk food, but healthy foods are available will help your child.

Proper rest – Not getting enough sleep can cause all types of problems in children. Make sure that they go to bed early enough to get a full sleep and provide a proper place where they can sleep through the night without disturbance.

Talking – Nothing will be more therapeutic than your child being able to talk about what is causing them stress. You may not always be able to do something directly about their problem, but you can offer some relief because they got what they are feeling off their chest. Most of the time keeping stuff bottled in will cause or multiply the stress they are feeling.

Scheduling (Me time) – Make sure that your child especially as they get older, have time for themselves. Some parents will schedule an activity right after school then they have homework. Make sure that you don’t pressure them into activities that they either don’t want to do or can’t do. A lot of time over bearing parents will push kids into activities because they like it. It has to be about the kids and what they are comfortable doing.

You can also try to prepare your child for the realities of the world which may reduce the stress. Your child having a clear and crisp mind is important to their growth. Without having to worry about the petty things that can occupy a lot of our time, they can truly achieve great things. If you want to maximize your child’s ability toward success, eliminating stress is a very important step to consider.
