Those with curly hair, would be more interested in making their crowning glory straighter by using various hair straighteners and other products, like hair straightening shampoos. However, it is a fact that women with spring-like frizzy hair find it difficult to manage their curly locks. They adopt various methods and products and end up with a frizzier mess. The following are some guidelines regarding straightening curly hair.

How to Straighten Curly Hair?

As far as curly hair is concerned, the most important thing is regular moisturizing, which is important for making it manageable and keeping it healthy. Using a good moisturizing conditioner is a must for people with curly hair. It should be manageable, before you try any methods for straightening curly hair. If you are confused about how to straighten curly hair, the following method should help you out.
  • Select a shampoo and conditioner, which is best suited for your hair. Now wash and condition your hair and use a towel to squeeze out excess water.
  • You have to apply some straightening creme to the entire hair uniformly. As the process of straightening curly hair involves the use of heat, which can damage hair, some sort of shield is necessary to lessen the damaging effects of the heat generated by the hair straightener. A straightening creme can provide this effect by adding extra moisture to the hair. According to some experts, it is better to use texturizing lotions for this purpose instead of straightening cremes. Straightening cremes have a tendency to stick to the hair for a longer time, making it unfavorable for those who want to straighten their hair for some special occasions only.
  • Once the lotion or creme is evenly distributed all over the hair, you have to divide the hair into three parts - the top, the middle and the back portion. Tie these parts separately.
  • Now open the hair tied on the back of the head and blow dry the hair in small sections. Use a brush, which can hold your hair tightly while blow drying. Make sure that you are holding the blow dryer at a distance of about eight inches from your hair and at a downward angle. Blow drying can make your hair rough and frizzy. In order to avoid this, you can choose to dry your hair naturally.
  • Once the hair is dry, you can use a straightening iron for straightening curly hair. Various types of straightening irons are available in the market and the ceramic ones are touted to be the best flat irons. However, you can opt for one with different heat settings. Start with the lowest setting and compare the results, to zero in on the best setting for your hair.
  • Here also, you have to work on small sections of hair for optimum results. Start from the part closest to the roots. Clamp the iron to hold the hair and slowly slide it to the tips. Repeat the process till you get the desired results. Work on all the sections before wrapping up. It is always better to start from the back to the front. Make sure that you are not holding the straightening iron in one spot for too long, as this can damage the hair.
You can apply some gloss to your straightened hair and brush it. Now that you know how to straighten curly hair with a straightening iron, you can share this method with your friends too. Remember that you cannot straighten your hair permanently with a straightening iron. Even though a straightening iron is widely used for this purpose, regular use may cause damage to your hair. So use it sparingly, and only for special occasions. Meanwhile, concentrate on the health of your hair. Proper hair care can make your curly hair more manageable and good looking.
