Stop Creditors from Calling

You are awaiting an extremely important business or a personal call and suddenly the phone goes beep. You receive the call in anticipation and to your utter disgust, it turns out to be a creditor harassing you for a payback. You are infuriated to the core, but somehow manage to keep cool. If you do not want to let this situation arise and want to stop creditors from calling, read on.
Stop Creditors from Calling
A few days back I went with one of my friends to her aunt. We went to her place, she welcomed us and after the pleasantries and introduction, we just broke into a casual conversation. The conversation was a pleasant one until my friend noticed that her aunt was looking haggard and there was something which was bothering her. When we probed deeper, we came to know that one of her creditors was calling her every now and then for repayment and it was getting on to her nerves. So both of us told her to take it with a pinch of salt and suggested her some tricks to stop creditors from calling her.

That was an example how harassing these creditors can be. Basically I feel sometimes that these creditors call people to terrify them into repayment of the loan or debt. If you are not in a financially sorry state, and its because of the course of the things you have not been able to pay back, you are definitely in a better position. If its otherwise, well even then, these pointers to stop creditors calling will work, but you would probably have to do it subtly. So following are the pointers, which will help you stop creditors from calling.

How to Stop Creditors from Calling?
  • Sort things out with the agency or the credit card companies. Do that right away, as soon as you have got calls twice or so. Once you tell them everything they want to hear about repayment, sit tight and hopefully you won't get any calls. In fact, tell them the whole thing the first time you get a call. This will be more advantageous, if you have a good credit history.
  • Many a times, it so happens that you are extremely busy or are in a hurry and there you go - a creditor's call is all you need to get you in tizzy. So then what do you do? Well, simply tell them, that this is not the right time and place to call (if you get a call at workplace - these creditors do not leave a place!). Tell them even if they call at workplace that they cannot do so unless you permit.
  • Make it unambiguous to stop creditors calling by telling them that they cannot call on the cell phone (if at all they are). By calling on cell phone, it will mean that you are being made compulsory to talk to the creditor. So tell them that this is your cell phone and they should not call again on your cell phone, as collection attempts cannot be made through cell phones.
  • Send a cease and desist letter stating for the company. This will stop them from calling you. In case you do not know how to do that, check out sample letters to creditors online. While you write the letter make a mention of Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) 1978, which is a consumer credit protection act.
  • FDCPA is a very important act helping you to stop creditors from calling. Threatening the creditors with FDCPA is a good way to deter them from calling you, as it restricts creditors from calling. So once you mention FDCPA, they will usually go in hibernation at least with regards to you!
  • Last, but certainly not the least, do not entertain their calls at all. Just let the thing ring. You are most likely to have a caller id or an answering machine to your home phone, so with the caller id you would know, what is the number you want to avoid.
You can also send one of the kinky mails passed around, whenever you get such a call or if you are eating and the debt collectors call, just start making a loud munching noise while eating! You would hear the distinct click indicating that the caller has ended the call. Or better still, if you have kids around, give the phone to one of those! This is a surefire way to stop creditors from calling!

So what say? The next time you want to stop creditors calling, I am positive that you would surely give them a piece of mind and give yourself the credit of regaining your 'peace' of mind! All the best and do not let these creditors get over your nerves!
