Stolen Hearts

Introduction to a novel.
What happens when humans start to evolve so much that their minds start opening truths about a world much larger than their own? What happens if they find the weapons inside themselves and use it against each other? There is a reason God gave us no magic of our own. For years, magic and witchcraft have been associated with the Devil. So when evolution took one-step too far, a war broke out.

In 2040 evolution took its hold on mankind and the ‘Deaf War’ began. Nuclear bombs were dropped, the seas were polluted, the air was un-breathable and the land had more craters than the dark side of the moon. Unnatural chasms were formed that made mountain ranges and valleys grotesque and deformed.

Another generation had evolved too far and God had to start over. It should have been the seventh ‘Big Bang’ to have been performed, but the Devil interfered this time. Like a brother turned jealous, excluded from Gods game, he wanted to play this time, he wanted revenge. God managed to wipe away all the death and the sickness, he managed to create a completely new range of creatures and he had made a new world for his new people. But he got distracted while assembling the fresh people, because the Devil had managed to make two of his own, a girl and a boy with shadowy grey eyes and revenge running through their veins. They were planted in amongst Gods own creations ready to be sent down to the new world. Protected by layers and layers of magical concealments the Devil left them there, on their own, in heaven. The boy did everything the devil expected him to do while he was waiting in heaven. He thought right, he acted right, he spoke right, and he never drew attention to himself. But the girl was different she was acting right and speaking right and never drew attention to herself but she wasn’t thinking right. She wasn’t as cold as the boy, she thought too much about what the Devil had put in her subconscious and she was starting to panic. The second she left heaven she wouldn’t know she was made by the Devil and was different and what worried her was that she wouldn’t be able to stop her subconscious from doing what the Devil had told it to do. The day they were due to leave it all went wrong. They were noticed by the angels guarding the gateway back to earth and were forced to flee using all the power they had to get as far away from heaven as possible, pushing past the queues of people as they went, to reach earth, to live.

God tried to stop them leaving but he couldn’t reach them in time. He caught a hair off the girl’s head, just before they escaped; a single strand. He could not destroy them because the Devil controlled their fates and he could not now send down his new generation because the Devil would surly have his two infect them. The Devils’ children were on Earth.

He decided to keep the generation he was about to tear down and left them with their powers. But this time when he sent them back down to earth with their lives he divided them up into five random groups so that they could not wage a war. He put each group in a different section on the earth and created huge mountains to keep them separated. He named them;

Incendia, the land of ice. Its terrain monstrously rocky and covered in ice and snow, all water is frozen solid. Here the population was plunged into a dark age with no fuel except the scarce amount of wood from small groups of trees. Half the people placed back down here died and the ones who survived the extreme cold are still struggling. But with the cold as a distraction the small tribes all stuck together and not a single war has been waged.

Terra, the land of earth and rock. Miles and miles of desiccated flat land and blistering heat; the trees grow to enormous heights and use up very little water. The seas dried up long ago and the survivors of the heat built their homes in the trees as the floor reached temperatures of eighty degrees Celsius during the day. They sleep through the day and move about at night when it is cooler. The settlements of tribes are so far away from each other that again no wars are held.

Mebenna, the land of the devil. The countryside is alive with trees and life. There are regular rain falls and the cities are thriving. Thunderstorms frequently rave all night. Despite the well being of almost every person in Mebenna there is a terrible war being fought constantly. This is also the land in which both devil children landed.

Unda, the land of water. Great trees with roots spreading out over miles and miles of sea, here there is no land only a vast tropical rain forest growing above a restless sea. Above the layers and layers of canopy the sun shines down constantly. There is no night and disease hangs everywhere. But the survivors adapted easily and the wide variety of trees and animal life provided many cures. Again no war because it was hard to make weapons and movement in the forest was difficult.

Aer, the land in the skies. Here the mountains reached so high that the people were living above the clouds. The sides of the mountains were covered in useful plants and trees. Magnificent structures were carved out of the mountains sides. Streams trickled down the mountains into the cities water line, feeding plants and people. Here there was nothing to fall out over.

Although each land had its problems and advantages God was at least satisfied that there were no wars. Of course except for Mebenna where old men remembered what their powers could get them. Bad habits and thoughts were passed down to the younger generations. Stories about children beating God and the glory of power in war all stirred and agitated the youth. Until eventually greed won many over and the battle for control and power began. Never had a war lasted for so long or been so terrible, God wanted nothing to do with it. They were a lost cause as they simply didn’t want his help. So he left them, but his help would always be there to the ones who called for him in great times of need. But he hasn’t yet had a strong enough call and perhaps even he is curious, what was happening in Mebenna now…
