Still Alive: The Beggining

2052: The secret of DNA have been unlocked. 2053: Genetic mutations on human subjects begin. 2055: Hell on earth, few people remain and a band of people attempt to cross thousands of miles of death ridden land full of bloodthirsty mutants. Will they survive?
The noise penetrated the depths of every heart as it echoed throughout the tunnels. The blood curdling scream continued slowly, gaining momentum as the urgency intensified. A cowboy boot stepped next to the source of the scream and slammed down his bloody hand. The screaming stopped abruptly as a metal pipe penetrated the victim’s head. Drayk looked down at the unearthly beast’s corpse lying in a pool of black blood. It had been the fourth one this week to wander so close to The Hold. ‘They are getting braver,’ thought Drayk, ‘they’re going to attack soon.’ Drayk walked over to his jeep, pulled out lighter fluid and walked up to the corpse. The body had already started decomposing at a phenomenal rate, its skin turning to a mushy tar that seeped into cracks in the concrete. Drayk drenched the body with the fluid, using up the entire bottle. He struck a match on his boot and tossed it instantly igniting the fluid. He walked to his military jeep, hopped in and started up the ignition. The echo bounced throughout the miles of empty tunnels and Drayk began driving towards one of the last human settlements on earth.

2052 A.D. Doctor Robert Metra unlocked the secrets of DNA and genetic mutations. Hundreds of companies embraced the discovery and created thousands of genetic mutants. Everything seemed to be possible with the new technology, but then a company brought it too far. On the terrible day of September 21, 2053, Destiny Industries started genetic mutations on humans. They had the idea of creating super humans, but it turned sour. A strand of a specific DNA that would alter all forms of life was used on a human.

The results were horrific; the human morphed growing terrifying appendages and an unquenchable lust for blood. After one doctor was killed, Destiny Industries disposed of the creature and the strand, but one man saved a strand and tried to smuggle it out of the lab. He was discovered and while attempting to flee in the streets of New York he dropped the strand. This specific strand was in gas form, it spread and over half the population of the city was infected; however, the strand died off. But the infected remained; they infected more until the disease spread to most continents. Some islands still remained safe, but had closed their borders to all. This made all the millions of survivors on infected areas attempt to survive in small communities. Today is 2055 and we are still struggling even today.

Andrea stepped down from the small podium and walked towards the back of the classroom. Mrs. Sutra stood up from her position and stepped up to the podium.

"Now students please thank Ms. Andrea for her help in learning our history," Mrs. Sutra prompted the classroom. One hundred fifty awed students clapped and vibrated the very floor of the college auditorium. Andrea ignored the applause and marched towards the double doors in the back. Her eyes focused on a young man of 26 with straight brown hair parted in the middle, then brushed to the side. He was six foot three and almost pure muscle; she could see his biceps flexing as she approached. He wore a mangy black S.W.A.T. uniform with all sorts of weaponry adorning it. He was very handsome to be sure; he looked up as she approached. Their eyes locked; and she saw that his usual sparkle had dampened. ‘Something is troubling him,’ Andrea noticed. She walked up and they quickly exchanged a kiss and he wrapped his arm around her. They both walked out into the dark underground city known as The Hold.

"So how was your discussion about the Destin Virus?" Drayk asked her. She looked up at him and he again realized how beautiful she was. Her long auburn hair reached half way down her back. She stood five foot eight and was a scientist dedicated to the research of reversing the Destin Viruses’ affect. She wore a skirt and a form fitting t-shirt. Her stunning blue eyes captured his full attention as he waited for her response.

"Boring as usual, so how was your extermination mission," She asked.
Drayk looked at her shocked, "how did you know?"

"You rushed out of the auditorium right at the beginning of my discussion; you sure made a lot of noise at it too."

He moaned, "Alerted all the students?" She nodded her head. He started explaining, "It was a mutant over on the Southern sector, some type of tiger. It was just roaming around and it tripped our sensors so I took care of it. I’m worried; it’s the fourth one this week, and its only Tuesday! I think the Southern horde is getting hungry; it’s been thirty days without a death and they must be getting restless. The mutants will be coming soon for blood."
