How the Trap Works

While the traditional mouse trap which we grew up seeing in the Tom and Jerry cartoons would certainly snap the neck of, and hence kill the mouse, the sticky mouse trap works in a slightly different way. Sticky traps come with some adhesive substance on them. Here are the steps in how to use them.

• Remove the sticky mouse trap from its case.
• Apply the glue on it as given in the directions.
• Place some bait around or on the mouse trap.
• Place the traps and the bait in a place where the mice frequent very often.
• The mouse will walk on to your traps and get caught.

Now while most people may be inclined to believe that since sticky traps do not kill the animal they are humane, it's actually a wrong assumption. It is nearly impossible to get the mouse off the trap and hence they are among the most inhumane mouse traps as the mouse is subjected to a slow, torturous death. Once the mouse gets stuck on the traps, it is almost impossible to get it out. So your two options are either to let it die slowly and painfully, or kill it yourself.

Buying the Trap

Due to their inhumane nature, sticky mousetraps are either banned in some countries, or their use is regulated so that they are used only by pest control agencies. So there are chances that in your country you might find it very hard to find these traps. If they are legal in your country, you'll find them in any hardware store or a general store.

Homemade Sticky Traps

If you cannot find a hardware store in near your place that does sell sticky traps, then it is can be one of the easiest homemade mouse traps. But ensure that this act isn't illegal in your country, or there may be some legal repercussions that may follow. A wooden or plastic plank and some glue. Some glues are specifically made to smell like food,which makes the rodents come running. In case you can't find such glue anywhere, just leave some food on the plank for the mouse. Rub some glue on the plank. The mouse will come to the plank to eat the food and then get stuck.

Sticky mouse traps are indeed, one of the most inhumane ways to kill mice. In case you have tried one and are now looking for sticky mouse trap removal because you feel for the poor animal, try rubbing vegetable oil or any other oil around the mouse. Rubbing alcohol too may do the trick sometimes. The glue may come off, if you use enough of these products.
