Steven Gerrard Set for his 500th 'Shirt' for Liverpool FC

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard readies himself for his 500th Liverpool cap.
Reminiscing about his senior debut 11 years ago against Blackburn Rovers, Steven Gerrard had said, "When the bus arrived back in Liverpool, I didn't want to get out. I thought it wouldn't be long until I was out permanently, sent back to the Under-19s with a note marked 'not good enough'."

The same lad from Whiston today is the captain of the Liverpool team, and has guided the club to one UEFA Champions League victory and 1 FA Cup victory. He also holds the second position in the fan polled list of the '100 players who shook the Kop'. Not bad for someone who thought his career was over after his very first senior appearance.

Things have changed as Gerrard readies himself to put on the Liverpool shirt on for the 500th time-his 500th shirt, if you may-he is one of the most highly rated (and priced) midfielders in the world, and quite frankly, indispensable in Liverpool FC's plans.

And what better team to play against in his 500th appearance than the team which he played against the first time? Yes, when Steven Gerrard comes out of the tunnel the 500th time, it will be against none other than the team he thought he was given a 'bad remark' against: Blackburn Rovers.

Surely, Gerrard would love to celebrate his appearance with a victory away from home, but he is not setting any lofty targets for the season. Gerrard knows that gunning for the title this year is all but impossible. But I'm sure he wouldn't mind thumping in a couple of goals in this special occasion. But Blackburn Rovers are sky-high with their confidence after their penalty-shootout win against Chelsea in the Carling Cup. And they're at home too.
