Steve-O, real name Stephen Glover, is currently in a rehabilitation facility after being involuntarily admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles last week. He was admitted to the hospital and placed on a 72-hour psychiatric hold after displaying suicidal behavior. He recently posted a blog on his MySpace and said, "I’m not ready to die. I’m ready to live. I’m ready to breathe (properly, even). I’m ready to fall in love. I’m ready to become ready to start a family. I’m ready to be happy, fulfilled and meaningful."
Steve-O, 33, claims that as a small child his parents fed him alcohol. He wrote, "We were frequently on airplanes and, before Mom and Dad would find themselves in the embarrassing position of being caught by other passengers with a crying baby, I was fed alcohol." He said that his mother was so gripped by the disease that she once lied about having cancer to stay in bed drunk. Steve-O said he can’t believe he ever started drinking on his own after seeing what it did to his mother. He also wrote, "I know I was always powerless over alcoholism, because it had such a grip on Mom’s adulthood and my childhood, and I never chose to fight it."
Steve-O also details his use of drugs including LSD, marijuana, amphetamines and nitrous oxide. He claims that his time in rehab has helped him accept all of his imperfections and to learn that he wants to live life. He claims to have given up drugs and is ready to start his life clean. Hopefully he has cleaned up his act and will be able to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
