Steve McNair Death Ruled a Homicide
Former NFL MVP Steve McNair was murdered early Saturday morning in Nashville, Tennessee, and officials have yet to disclose the death ruling on the woman found dead with him.
Steve McNair was found dead in a Nashville apartment with his 20-year-old girlfriend of four months, Saleh Kazemi. McNair was shot multiple times, including twice in the head, and Kazemi was shot once in the head. A handgun was found under Kazemi’s body and police have said that they are not searching for a suspect in the case. That information is pointing to the idea that McNair was part of a murder-suicide and that he was killed by Kazemi before she took her own life.
Reports are surfacing that Kazemi believed that McNair was preparing to divorce his wife of twelve years, Mechelle McNair and that the two would ultimately be together. Police are currently interviewing friends and family of Kazemi as well as her ex-boyfriend. It is unclear at this time whether Kazemi’s death will be ruled a suicide and what – if anything – preceded the incident that resulted in the death of McNair and Kazemi.
McNair was known as a tough football player and a consistent winner in the NFL. He was also notably free of any off field issues and was generally considered to be an upstanding professional – especially by NFL standards. McNair was a Division I AA phenomenon at Alcorn State and was eventually taken with the number three overall pick by the Houston Oilers, who would become the Tennessee Titans. McNair lead the Titans to two AFC championship games and one Super Bowl, coming up 1 yard short of potentially winning the big game.
