Earlier, on 2nd March, 2011, Apple CEO Steve Jobs surprised everyone by making a public appearance at the Yerba Buena Center, San Francisco, to announce the launch of their much-awaited tablet PC - the Apple iPad 2. While the surprise element will be missing this time around, Jobs is all set to make yet another public appearance; this time at Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2011 to announce Apple's all new online storage service - the iCloud. The event is slated to take place in the second week of this month, i.e. between 6th June to 10th June, 2011, in San Francisco, with Jobs scheduled to deliver the keynote about the iCloud service on the inaugural day of this event.

Apple to Announce iCloud on 6th June, 2011

Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) has been in news for quite some time now, predominantly for being the launchpad of Apple's next generation operating system the iOS 5. The rumors about its release have come true, and so have the speculations about the Apple iCloud release. In their press release dated 31st May, 2011, Apple Inc. revealed that Steve Jobs will unveil iCloud service at the WWDC on Monday, 6th June, 2011. Along with the iCloud, Steve Jobs is also expected to announce iOS 5 operating system for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad and the much awaited Mac OS X Lion, which will be the eighth major release of Mac OS X, at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) keynote on June 6, 2011.

A cloud computing service generally allows its users to store content on remote servers - instead of keeping it on their hard drive, however, nothing much is known about the specifications of Apple's iCloud in particular. Though the company is yet to reveal what the iCloud service will be exactly like, tech pundits are of the opinion that it will help Apple users store music and other content online. With the launch of iCloud service, Apple is all set to hop onto the cloud services bandwagon which has been dominated by rival Google and Amazon for quite some time now.

Recent trends suggest that Apple is fast losing its grip on the market to Android smartphones and tablets. In such circumstances it wouldn't be surprising to see the company stress on software for its products this year, and the press release about the iCloud service unveiling at the WWDC hints at this very fact. iCloud service, along with the all new iOS 5, is expected to give Apple iPhone and iPad an edge over a range of Android smartphones and tablets that are being pitched to be the competitors for Apple devices. Exactly what's there in store for those who are eagerly awaiting the release of iCloud is something that only time will tell, and that time will come on Monday, 6th June, 2011, at 10:00 AM.
