Steps to Follow to Ensure Refund of Your Security Deposit

Everyone who has ever lived in an apartment community is wary about receiving their security deposit back from their apartment community. Many renters dread the amount that will be deducted from the check they should receive shortly after they leave the premises. Remember though, that the apartment community must recondition the apartment home into the shape it was previously in before you moved in. 1. Obey all the rules contained in your lease contract. Don’t create problems for the management staff such as loud noise late at night. Do not try and sneak a pet in without paying for a pet deposit. If you do this not only will you lose credibility with the apartment manager, you may get evicted and most likely will have to pay an additional pet deposit.
2. Get to know the maintenance staff. If you are friendly to the maintenance crew they will usually repair any items in your apartment home first. Also, they usually do the walk-through after your lease terminates. They are more likely to turn their head the other way if they can repair any damage the property has incurred because of you.
3. Report any problems to the maintenance staff as quickly as possible. Even though you may not be responsible for a malfunction dishwasher or washer and dryer, taking responsibility for items that need repairing may go a long way.
4. Before you move out of your apartment home, ask the manager who decides what items may be deducted from your security deposit. If it is the manager or maintenance staff, ask if you can do an early walk through.
