Stay at Home Mom Cabin Fever

As a stay at home mom, it's important to get out and experience life so you don't get a case of the stay at home mom cabin fever!
It sounds really nice to be a stay at home mom for the sake of your kids, but there are times when you, as well as the kids, do tend to get something we like to call, cabin fever. It is a claustrophobic feeling that you get when you feel that you've been cooped up for too long indoors. The term takes its origin from the days when the people who came to Alaska in search of gold used to live in cabins while it snowed heavily outside. This staying indoors left some of them going crazy.

Even if you're living in Alaska, you might develop a problem of cabin fever when you cannot go out. This can happen especially during the winter days when there is rain, or snow outside. One does not want to go out, but it is the most important to go out even if it means packing yourself and the kids in heavy woollen clothing, gloves, and chill proof clothes and carrying umbrellas. It will surely not be very pleasant nor worth going out, yet you must.

Because it is very important for a human being to have fresh air, sunshine or day light at least and to be outside the house environment for a while every day. If you do not do that, you tend to get irritated with each other for no reason at all. There is unnecessary bickering around the house, you yourself tend to shout at the kids and you are also upset because you have not been outside the house for a long time.

Why does one need to go out at all? Because it is tiresome to go on staring at the same walls day in and day out. Human beings are made in such a way that any change does wonders to their spirit and sense of balance. For a stay at home mom, it is important to get out because she does not have any other way to go out and have a change from her daily field of work. Usually we don't associate winter days with outdoors but a deep breath in that cold, crisp air fills you with unprecedented freshness. It is actually very rejuvenating.

It is not only mentally invigorating; it is also good for your body. It is natural that when the temperature is very low, your muscles get their energy from shivering and vibrating. The body tends to produce more heat, more blood travels to brain and heart. When you go out for short durations, this phenomenon leads to your feeling more alive and revved up with the energy released during these moments. Of course overdoing it will result in frostbites or catching of chills. Moreover, it should be for very short duration that you should be exposed to extremely cold weather and that too, with sufficient clothing on you.

It is not only during winter days that you get a feeling of cabin fever. It can happen when you spend too much of your time inside the house for any reason. It may be due to extreme summer conditions when you wish to stay inside the AC. Then also, make it a point to go out and get some natural air away from AC.

Therefore, do make it a part of your habit to go out of your house for a short duration, even if it means a walk around the block.
