Spying on your Competitors Keywords
Find out if it is wise to spy on your competitors key words while doing SEO web design.
First thing you need to ask yourself is it wise to spy on your competitors keywords and then use them within your own websites content.
They may have done a lot of link building with those keywords used in anchor links and descriptions in directories etc that will help their website but may not help yours.
Secondly, how do you know they are using the right keywords, they could be using keywords that will never rank high and then you could fall into the same trap by using their keywords. Little bit like copying the kid next door in maths class and then getting it wrong because he did.
Thirdly, if you do know what keywords your competitors are using, do you know how to use them correctly within your own website?
There can be a number of reasons why you should not do this, but then again if you know what you are doing then there is no reason why you can not steal a good one here and there.
Most people that go out to steal keywords from their competitors are mostly all struggling in the search engine result pages. This is because they have not done their own homework to start with that would have provided them hundreds if not thousands of keywords.
If you have seo web designed your website correctly from the start then there is no need to go wasting your time searching for other webmasters keywords. You will have a list of keywords to work from with their supply, demand and profitability.
Even if you still want to steal keywords then the best and easiest way to do this without purchasing any software is to use the search engines to do the job for you.
Before I tell you how to spy on competitors keywords it is best to know if your competitors are using them correctly, if they are then they would most likely be using the correct keywords. But remember that just because you are using the same keywords as them does not mean you will rank as high as them.
They will be using their keywords in their meta tags if they are using them correctly, this means that when their results show up in search engine result pages they will stick out like a sore thumb.
Ok you have your competitors web address at hand, go type this into Google
site:the-webaddress-here.com
e.g. site:pond-creation.com
What this does is brings back results of all the web pages that have been indexed by Google of the website you have just typed in.
Each result represents a webpage from the competitors site, you will find the webpage title, description and web address of each page shown in the results. These are created by using meta tags. You will notice, if they are using their keywords correctly, that the title or part of the title will repeat its self in the description and the file name.
To double check you can always go into each individual page and click on the view button and the top of your screen and click source. This will bring up the HTML coding for the webpage and near the top your will see it say keyword tags and the keywords will be there as well.
Pond-creation.com is a perfect example as all keywords are being used correctly.
Enjoy spying, but remember if you do your homework from the start you never need to waste time spying on competitors keywords.
