Flour tortillas are favorite among a lot of people because of the Mexican cuisine influence. The tortillas are used for making enchiladas, burritos, wraps, soft tacos, and quesadillas. Many households, besides the traditional Mexican homes, are integrating tortillas in their daily diet. Another variation to normal flour tortillas are spinach tortillas. The recipe of it is really easy and can be made right at home. The following article will describe the essential ingredients involved to make a perfect tortilla.

Make the Tortillas from Scratch

The following description is for a soft, homemade flour tortilla with spinach. The recipe will make approximately 8 tortillas of 12 inches. Let's take a look at how to make the tortillas for that mouth-watering experience.

Ingredients
  • 9 oz fresh spinach, cooked and chopped
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • ¼ cup oil
  • Garlic salt for taste
  • Seasoned pepper
  • 2 cups flour
Procedure

Take a bowl, mix in flour, garlic salt, seasoned pepper, and oil. Add the spinach and remaining water from the pan. Knead the mixture for about 5 minutes to get a smooth dough. This will help mix the spinach properly. Make 8 equals sized balls of the dough. Before we start rolling the tortillas, preheat a large non-stick pan. Lightly flour the surface to roll the dough into thin circles. Place each tortilla one by one over the pan and cook both the sides for 5 minutes each. Once you start to see small brown spots on the tortilla, they are ready to eat. (Calories: 180 kcal each tortilla)

Tortilla Roll Ups with Turkey

The following recipe is one of my favorites. The recipe is easy, has a lot of heat to it, and makes for great appetizers and/or side dish with main course.

Ingredients
  • 2 jalapeño peppers, chopped
  • 1 lb smoked turkey, cut paper thin
  • 6 spinach tortillas, warmed
  • 4 oz green or red chili salsa
  • 8 oz cream cheese
  • ¼ cup sour cream
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper, for taste
  • 3 ripe avocado, peeled
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
Procedure

Take a mixing bowl and combine cream cheese, sour cream, green or red chili salsa, and jalapeños properly. To mash the avocados, take a different bowl and add some fresh lemon juice to it. Now add the onion powder, salt and pepper, and keep mixing till you end up with a smooth consistency. Take a tortilla and spread generous amount of jalapeño mix. Place the turkey slices (as many as you like on each tortilla) and top it with generous amount of avocado mix. Now roll the tortilla making sure everything is tightly snugged inside it. You can cut each tortillas in half and serve them with some salsa.
