Spinach Salad Dressing

Eating salads on a regular basis is good for health; we all know that. When I was a child, my grandmother always used to say this during lunch and dinner times (I would leave the greens on one side of the plate). Almost every parent goes through this stage with their kids when the greens, especially spinach is left untouched. A good way to make your family (and yourself) enjoy eating spinach and avail its benefits is by making delicious spinach salad recipes. And no salad is complete without the addition of yummy dressing, is it? So here are some recipes on dressings for you, that can be used with different kinds of salads as well.

Sweet and Sour Dressing
If you love grilled chicken and baked potatoes for dinner, the following recipe for spinach salad is a perfect match.

Ingredients
  • 5 cups fresh spinach
  • 1 can bean sprouts
  • 1 red onion, julienned
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • ½ brown sugar
  • ½ cup cider vinegar
  • Tomato ketchup to taste
Mix vinegar, Worcestershire, oil, brown sugar, and ketchup together. Combine all the ingredients in a large bowl and pour the dressing generously.

Salad Dressing with Honey
When you're hungry but are on a special diet or don't want to eat anything with too many calories, this salad along with its dressing is just right.

Ingredients
  • 6 cups baby spinach
  • 1 can chickpeas
  • ½ cup red onions, julienned
  • 5 cups iceberg lettuce
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1 shallot, julienned
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
  • Salt and pepper to taste
To prepare the dressing, melt the butter in a skillet, add shallots, and cook till butter turns golden brown. Remove from the stove, stir in honey, vinegar, salt, and pepper to it. Pour the warm honey-butter dressing over the iceberg lettuce, spinach, chickpeas, and onion mix. And that's all there is to it.

Soy Sauce Dressing
Now this next recipe is not just simple, but is healthy and full of flavor. If you love a bit of oriental flavor in your food, then make this salad today.

Ingredients
  • 1 lb fresh spinach
  • 2 green onions, chopped with green tops
  • Mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 cup bean sprouts
  • 1 avocado, diced
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons white wine vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste
Remove stems from the spinach and mix with mushrooms, bean sprouts, and green onions. Add avocado slices on top and just before serving the salad, pour in the soy sauce, sugar, salt, pepper, and vinegar mix. Make sure the sugar is properly dissolved. Toss the salad gently to coat the spinach leaves.

Creamy Spinach Dressing
This my favorite creamy dressing which I use almost every time I'm having a salad. It's low on calories and tastes so good.

Ingredients
  • 1 cup canola oil
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ cup vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon celery seeds
  • Salt and pepper to taste
Blend all the ingredients properly and chill it in refrigerator. Whisk well before using for the salad.

Citrus Spinach Salad Dressing
If you like a bit of tangy flavor in your salad, then this citrus-flavored dressing for your spinach salad is great.

Ingredients
  • ¼ cup extra-virgin olive oil
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon fresh thyme leaves, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 2 tablespoons fresh orange juice and lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • Lemon zest
Take lemon zest, orange juice, lemon juice, Dijon mustard, thyme, honey, and salt in a bowl and whisk it properly. While whisking, add olive oil to the mixture for a smooth and thick dressing. Dressing spinach salad with the citrus flavor gives a normal salad, a different kick.

Orange-Yogurt Dressing
Here's a dressing recipe that will put a twist to your normal spinach salad. Try it out.

Ingredients
  • ½ cup low-fat yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons orange juice
  • Orange zest
  • ½ teaspoon honey
In a small bowl, mix in the yogurt (make sure it's plain yogurt), orange juice, honey, and orange zest. You can prepare this recipe and serve it as a side dish with chicken.
