Spike Those Strawberries

Now you do not need to make up excuses for downing two or three strawberry daiquiris, or feel guilty about it. It is a health drink – and thus off limits to criticism from the little woman.
A report in the Journal of the Sciences of Food and Agriculture (it cannot get more authoritative than that) states that any colored fruit can be made even more healthy by the addition of alcohol.
Research has found that adding ethanol – the kind of alcohol found in rum, vodka and tequila – boost the nutrients in strawberries and blackberries. What is so great about anti-oxidants? They cancel out the damaging effects of chemical compounds called free radicals. This, in turn, lowers the risk of cancer, heart problems and some neurological diseases.
So bottoms up, guys! As a special treat, I recommend that you get hold of a copy of the Journal; wait till the next time the wife gets on your case for over-imbibing – and then zap her with the article. Such opportunities don’t come our way often. Make the most of it. Cheers!
