The number of sperms that are a part of the seminal liquid is known as sperm count. This numerical estimation is an indicator of male fertility. Various sexual problems suffered by a man can be diagnosed and treated using the readings and analysis of a sperm count.

Things that can be done to boost sperm count

If you have a low sperm count, its time to do something about it! There are various things that can be done to increase this low sperm count. The best way of increasing low sperm count is by choosing the natural route. This includes eating healthy, a daily exercise regimen and reduction of stress. While the first two are purely physical approaches, the reduction in stress is a psychological approach and its success is dependant on the professional, as well as, personal sphere of influence. Various scientific studies have proven that if the levels of stress increase its decreases the sperm count.

This decrease can be arrested, if you de-stress yourselves on a daily basis. One of the ways of de-stressing is by listening to relaxing music. Other ways of increasing sperm count are by reducing the intake of alcohol and cutting back on your habit of smoking. These addictions are tailor made to decrease the sperm count. It’s not necessary that you go on an intensive exercise regimen in order to improve your sperm count. All you need to do is embark on a light, but regular exercise regimen. This will not only help keep your body fit but also help it de-stress.

Vitamins to increase sperm count

If you want to improve your sperm count effectively, an intake of vitamin supplements or a vitamin intensive diet is an absolute must. Vitamins like Beta Carotene, Vitamin E and Vitamin C have anti-oxidant properties, thus helping protect the sperm from damage caused due to oxidation. The intake of various food items containing Vitamin C, Beta Carotene and Vitamin E will go a long way in helping improve the sperm count. Citrus fruits and berries contain large amounts of Vitamin C, while Beta Carotene is to be found in vegetables like broccoli, pumpkins and carrots. Nuts like almonds and walnuts are a great source Vitamin E. Vitamins also help improve the sperm motility. The intake of Vitamin C also prevents the sperm from sticking together. This sticking together of the sperms, also known as sperm agglutination decreases male fertility.

Gum disease and sperm count

Researchers have drawn a link between gum disease and low sperm count. It’s been discovered that men suffering from infertility are more prone to suffering from gum diseases and infections in relation to those having a healthy sperm count. Studies were conducted on men aged between 23 and 52. As only a limited number of subjects were studied, the test could at best be called a pilot test. This was a three year pilot study wherein almost 50% of the persons tested suffered from gingivitis while another 32% were diagnosed with chronic periodontitis. An extended and exhaustive long term study will be needed in order to further understand the why and how of chronic gum infections affecting the fertility and sperm count in men.

Excessive cell phone usage and sperm count

Preliminary findings of studies conducted by a reputed source have found that men who had excessive cell phone usage had a poor sperm quality as compared to those who used a cell phone minimally. Statistical findings suggested that those men, who used their cell phones for four hours or more, had the lowest average sperm count. At the other end of the spectrum, the men who used their cell phones for the lowest amount of time, had the highest amount of sperm count. With increased usage of cell phones, it was seen that the sperm count does go down but the difference was not thought to be significant. It’s difficult to say without any doubt that there is a relation between decreased sperm count and increased usage of cell phone. For this, many more studies need to be conducted.

Daily sex = healthy sperms

Various researches conducted on fertility problems have suggested that men suffering from low sperm counts can improve it by having sex daily. A downhill trend in sexual desire will result in a low sperm count. An increase of sexual activity will also improve a man’s sexual health, in general. Apart from its physical benefits, it also has its psychological benefits. There will be less anxiety about the ‘bedroom performance’ on account of having sex daily. This will help in lowering the levels of stress by a long way, also helping improve the sperm count. Sex also helps keep the body fit and healthy, which is also a pre-requisite for increasing sperm count.
