Southeast Houston Apartments

The Southeast Houston area was disrupted from the arrival of Hurricane Ike. Electricity and power were both lost.
Southeast Houston, Texas recently saw a massive amount of flooding due to Hurricane Ike in the month of September. The majority of residents on the island of Galveston had to evacuate the area as loss of electricity and water was inevitable. Even other portions of the area had substantial flooding including Seabrook, Baytown, and Texas City.

After the hurricane passed through many residents decided to lease apartments, houses, or move in with family or friends. FEMA set up POD stations where residents could gather supplies including water and ice. The water supply in Houston was temporarily deemed unsafe to drink, until it could be determined the supply did not contain any harmful bacteria. The water was restored quickly to the majority of the population in the Houston area. However, Center Point indicated that power had been lost to over 2 million of its customers. Most people take for granted the luxuries that electricity brings. Without electricity refrigerators cannot operate and perishable items will rot. Of course televisions will not function and in many cases when the power was restored, Comcast was not necessarily operating at full capacity either.

Also cell phones and lap top computers could not be charged, portable landline phones could not operate. One of the worst inconveniences was the lack of, and the inability to get gas. Since service station had no power, their pumps could not deliver gas to vehicles. A few stations around Houston did not lose power and extremely long lines formed as individuals waited hours to get gas.

Apartments in the Houston area saw massive amounts of residents filling out applications and deposits to secure temporary housing. However, most residents wanted to sign temporary leases for around 3 month terms. Most apartments do not allow this type of leasing, however, the ones that do normally have an up-charge each month.
