Soundproofing Foam Spray
A soundproofing foam spray can help you soundproof the walls of your home. While it can be done by experts who'll charge you phenomenally, here's a DIY guide to use a soundproofing spray.
Need for Soundproofing
Soundproofing! That's right. Don't be under the impression that soundproofing is only for those rich music playing chappies or for your downtown office. With the help of soundproofing foam spray, soundproofing has become pretty much a DIY activity. While there is no difference in the quality, soundproofing foam sprays are cheap, easy to use, and you don't even have to pay those so-called 'soundproofing experts'. And the result? A house where you don't have to hear other people fighting, and besides your own dirty laundry stays inside as well.
Using a Soundproofing Foam Spray
- A soundproofing spray is made of liquid polyutherine which solidifies into a solid spongy material when it comes into contact with the wall. Such a spray foam along with soundproofing the room also protects the walls from outside elements, pests and mildew.
- For a beginner, the use of studs is very important. Place the studs at small distances along the wall for a start to give you some idea as to how to go about the soundproof foaming. Make sure you also have a wet rag at hand in case the sprays go wild. You don't want to soundproof the wrong wall.
- You have to drill a hole between the studs. Preferably the measurement should start from the top of the wall, the first hole one-thirds and the second hole two thirds of the distance between each stud. Once you get confident with the holes, you can make fewer holes, maybe only one between each stud.
- Then go from the bottom hole, upwards. Push the nuzzle of the soundproofing spray into the holes and press button to release the foam. Note the amount of time taken for the foam to fill the hole before proceeding. This will help you understand approximately how much time it takes to fill a hole.
- Spray till the foam is dry. Then proceed to the next hole. You can calculate the time required for one hole, and on the basis of that go on with slightly longer spaces between the holes. Repeat the step for the next studs. Remember that you have to put a little less in the one-third gap hole.
- Continue this process for the entire wall/room that you want to soundproof.
So why wait? Soundproof your walls using the soundproofing foam spray!
