Soul Music

The various instruments of black and white
And bronze and silver, ivory and wood
Are blown and thumped with great might
To sound alone, as loud as they should.

Then people sing and catch a beat
It is normal today to hum first, then talk!
Music is a 'must' part of every meet
Whether you sit, stand or 'do' the walk.

But when you are about to drift
Into deep and heavenly slumber
Have you ever wondered at the lift
Of that soothing, soul-stirring number?

There is a note in every sparrow's call
And a rhyme as the falls cascade
In the breeze that rustles the willow tall
And as you step on dry leaves laid.

The laughing brook, the swaying reed
The calming sea, the echoing vale
The music is lasting, and offers good lead
It is never repeated or boringly stale.

Ever heard the beat in your step
Or the silent strength in prayer
Ever heard the canto as you pep
The spirit of another on the stair.

Without a doubt the piano keys
Are pleasing to the ear and nerve
No debate on the flute, lute please
Or the harp and all its verve.

But rest a while, let me share a thought
All these modes are created to replicate
The gift of sound that nature bought
So soft and soothing and delicate.
