♥Soul Mates Forever - Ch. 18♥
"Hey babe what do you think of this color?" Heather asks as she puts the yellow and black dress against her body. I gape at the lustrous intertwine of fabric.
"It's alright", I understate and look around the enormous Nordstrom's store. Heather and I are shopping for dresses to go clubbing at Karma today.
"What was going on with you yesterday?" Heather asks me, avoiding eye contact.
"Uumm..its nothing don't worry", I mumble timidly. "How are you and Mattie?", i inquire, wanting to change the subject very badly.
"It's not good..." Heather mutters. I look expectantly at her. "He's very distant lately...everyone is", she says.
I flinch at the jab knowing she's talking about me, and turn around quickly and pick up a purple and pink satin dress. It is beautiful. "I think I found my dress", I utter and smile to myself. I hang it on a nearby hook, grabbing my phone as it buzzes. Text message:
Jay: Heyy Sexii
Ignore. "I'm gonna go try these on, okay?", Heather calls, she is walking away. "Me too", I cry out, hastily grabbing the purple and pink dress, and following her to the change room. I pass a nearby mirror and catch a look at my frowning reflection. I wipe of my scowl, I look like a bitch. "What is wrong with me?" I reflect.
I try on the dress, but quickly throw it to the reject pile outside the stall, it doesn't fit me well...it wrinkles visibly at the abdomen area. I groan. I have gained a bit of weight since the incident.
Heather comes out in the yellow and black dress. Of course, she looks stunning. She flips her hair and looks at me, flashing a row of perfectly straight white teeth, saying: "whatcha think?"
"Its perfect, you should get it", I pronounce, smiling subtly. She looks like a goddess. She glances at me, I'm wearing my regular clothes, and narrows her eyes. "What about you?" she asks ominously.
I shrug. "I'll find something at home, if don't like anything here", I lie deceptively. Heather looks away and nods.
We walk over to the cashier and I awkwardly play around with my phone as Heather buys the dress.
"I think I might have some unworn dresses at home, want to come over and try them?" she asks genuinely and glances at me warmly as she swipes her Visa.
I shake me head. "No thanks, I already know what I want". I really don't.
"Okay then...do you have shoes that match?" she asks, picking up the shopping bag and saying 'thank you' to the lady at the cashier.
"Yeah it's good, I have" I state. Again, no I don't.
"Same here" she says, sighs, and marches out of the store.
"I think the parking is on the lower floor", I speak trying to break the silence. No shit.
"It is", she states, and presses down on the mall elevator. There is a ding and the elevator doors open. We walk in and then I notice a young trashy mom with a baby in a baby carrier. It's Lexi.
"Hi", she says to us. "Hey?" Heather and I reply in shock. "Is that your baby?" Heather asks and smiles deceivingly. Lexi laughs uneasily and nods. "She has a friggin baby?" I think to myself. We smile and wave goodbye ineptly as Lexi waves back, exiting the elevator first.
"That was soo weird!" Heather exclaims. "Yeah", I nod and laugh trying to ease the tension as we walk towards the subway exit. We sit together in strange silence during the trip back.

At home I ended up finding something to wear. I chose a gray bubble dress, purple heels, and silver bangles. I kick back in the dark rouge bar sofa as we all sit in a circle at the bar. "Drinks are on me", Mattie bellows and raises a toast, as Heather cuddles with him. She has been ignoring me since we got here. I clunk my glass with Daniel's and take a shot.
It's Jay, Daniel, Hailey, Mattie, Heather, and I. Jay looks at me, I glance away. I take another shot. No one is talking to me. I sit there in discomfited silence for a few minutes. I notice Jay isn't taking any shots, so when he looks away, I take his....it won't hurt. Feeling buzzed, I look around. I shake my head as everything spins. Woaah way too much, way too fast. I chuckle to myself.
A tall handsome man looks my way and winks. He puts his drink down and flexes his tan bulky muscles, his black tank is wrapped tightly around his ripped body. I smile deviously at him. Jay utters something incomprehensible. I snap my head back his way and ask: "What???"
"I SAID DO..." Jay begins but is cut off by the tall handsome young man who speaks over him: "Heyy wanna dance?" in a deep brittle voice. His eyes are an unfathomable emerald green. He has walked up to us. "I'D LOVE TO", I pronounce and let him take my hand. I smirk at Jay, who narrows his eyes at me. I don't know why I'm doing this, but it seems right. A lot of things seem right to me lately.
Hailey and Heather raise their eyebrows at me, they start whispering to themselves....gossiping, and Daniel calls my name. I begin to walk away with the mysterious charming hunk. "SLUUTT!!" Jay yells, arms cupped around his mouth. I don't even look back. He walks me to the middle of the dance floor and we grind.
I feel his fresh spicy breath on my cheek as I get close to him. From the corner of my eye I see Jay clenching his jaw. The man pulls me closer "Hey", he whispers softly. "Heyy", I say. "What is your name honey?" he solicits. "What is yours?" I inquire flirtatiously. He kisses me and I bite his lip. "You like games. I see. It's Andy", he exhales. "Angie", I speak softly.
We move further away from everyone, "You are one hot chick, I got lucky tonight", he says smoothly. I wrap my fingers in his dark wispy hair and smack my mouth against his. His hand moves down my back.
"ANGIEE!" I hear someone yell. Daniel pushes me off Andy, and punches him. "Duuuuude!" Andy outcries, his nose is bleeding. He pounces on Daniel, and I scream. It all happens so fast. Next thing I know Andy is dragged of by two cops and Daniel's cheek is swollen.
"What the fuck Daniel?" I whimper.
"Angie, please, you don't want to do this, not with him", he says assertively. He then takes me by the arm firmly and drags me to Jay saying "Take 'er home". Jay nods and pushes me towards the entrance.
I wobble and try to protest, but Jay stares at me angrily, so I look away. By this point i have realized things aren't going so well. This agonizing misery and wretchedness swoops over me.
We walk in bitter silence under the street lights. A gang of men are standing at the gate of a building. The men look at us leeringly, and Jay puts his hand around me and walks me further away from them, to show them that he is ready to protect me if he has too...I gaze down in shame. The men laugh among themselves and whistle as we pass them by. Jay begins to walk faster, more briskly, constantly looking back. "If I tell you to run, run to my car over there", Jay whispers, and takes out a set of keys. Two car lights flash somewhere in the hazy distance. He points at them meekly, I nod. I hear someone call something out behind us. Dreadfully, I look back, there are two men following us.
We are almost there, but the two men are closer. One of them throws a beer bottle at us, but misses. I run to the car and get into the backseat of the car, as Jay follows and jumps in and nervously fiddles around with the car keys. I'm whimpering and shaking with fear. I hear drunken laughter as the two men step in front of Jay's car, one is pointing a gun straight at us. "Get out", he orders loudly and cocks his head to the side. The other man gives an arrogant nod to his mate and then grins at us wickedly, it's Andy. Jay speeds back. There is a shatter of glass; the window to my right explodes into millions of tiny chips, a large bullet hole a foot away from where I am crouching. Jay lunges the car forward at top speed, there is another shot, but it misses. I am in shock.
"See what you got me into", Jay grumbles acrimoniously and spits to the side. He picks up his phone and dials a number.
"Hey Daniel. Be careful when you guys walk to your car, we just ran into that asshole's friends and they almost hijacked our car. Yes. Ight. Love you too bro. Peace" Jay says and snaps his phone shut.
I cry the car ride home, and glance up every once in a while at Jay, who does nothing. Forty-five minutes later we pull into my drive way. Jay escorts me out of his car.
We stand there for a moment just glaring at each other. "I'm...sorry", I whine and walk closer to him. "No. You're drunk". He mutters and steps back, waving me away. He gets into his car and drives away. I walk into my empty house, without bothering to turn on the lights; I collapse on the floor and break down sobbing to myself, alone.
